Lexar unveils a 4.0 pcie ssd with 7gb / s read speeds

The Lexar company invited members of the international press to take a look at its upcoming storage innovations and was especially surprised by a PCIe 4.0 SSD that can achieve a read speed of 7 GB / s.

Currently, the market for PCIe 4.0 consumer SSDs is dominated by Phison and its PS5016-E16 controller. This controller is used by the manufacturers Corsair, Galax, Adata, Seagate, Gigabyte, and virtually every other consumer PCIe 4.0 SSD we have right now. Lexar is now introducing something new, a faster PCIe 4.0 SSD, which is configured to offer read speeds of 7GB / s.
Compared to Phison PS5016-E16 SSDs, these speeds represent a huge step forward for the consumer SSD market. Current PCIe 4.0 SSDs typically peak at around 5GB / s, and the Lexar prototype has been shown to offer read speeds of 6224MB / s. In 2020, consumer PCIe 4.0 SSDs will be much faster than views now, at least, that's what they've claimed.

Lexar did not disclose who made the controller for its PCIe 4.0 SSDs, although it did reveal that they expect their PCIe 4.0 SSDs to hit the market in the second quarter of 2020 with read speeds of 7GB / s.
In the IOmeter screenshot below, speeds above 7GB / s are shown, taking sequential read performance far beyond the limits of PCIe 3.0. The sequential performance this drive offers is typically twice as fast as many high-end PCIe 3.0 SSDs, which is great news for anyone wanting faster SSD storage.
In 2020, new PCIe 4.0 SSD controllers are expected from manufacturers like Phison, Silicon Motion, and other controller manufacturers, which will reignite competition in the SSD market. Perhaps Samsung even creates a 980 series of PCIe 4.0-based SSDs, as a successor to the popular 970 series PCIe 3.0 SSDs.
Whatever the manufacturer, NVMe SSDs will be much faster thanks to the PCIe 4.0 interface and is something that began to become popular in 2020.
