If you have come across this review, it is because you have surely seen the low price that the 4GB Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti currently has. Specifically, the unit that we are going to show you is the MSI GTX 1050 Ti 4G OC, which is one of the most interesting and economical options in the Nvidia 1050 Ti series.

Surely you want to see all the benefits and benefits it can offer. We teach you!

We thank Nvidia for the transfer of the product for its analysis:

Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti technical characteristics

Design and unboxing

This time we came across one of the cheapest models, specifically the MSI GTX 1050 Ti 4G OC, that makes us a very modest presentation with a fairly simple cover. Where it indicates that it is an overclocked model, compatible with DirectX 12 and incorporates a total of 4GB GDDR5.

While on the back they indicate all the technical characteristics of the product in more detail and its rear connections.

Once we open the product we find the following bundle:

  • Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti graphics card. Quick guide. CD with drivers and management software.

The MSI GTX 1050 Ti 4G OC graphics card uses the new graphics architecture Nvidia Pascal, specifically it is the GP107 that It is manufactured in 16 nm FinFET and one of the most efficient cards having a TDP of just 75W.

The dimensions of the graphics card are quite standard with 21.5 x 11.2 x 3.8 cm and a Dual Slot size that we can install in any cabinet on the market. And being so small we can even incorporate it in an ITX box with large space.

These transistors are distributed within the chip in a total of 6 Streaming Multiprocessors units, these in turn contain the large number of 768 CUDA cores with Pascal architecture. We also found no less than 48 texturizing units (TMUs) and 32 crawling units (ROPs).

The Streaming Multiprocessors run Some frequencies in its GPU of 1, 341 MHz in base mode that goes up to 1, 455 MHz under Turbo B oost 3.0 for really good performance. Custom models come more nut hikes, so their performance is far superior to this reference model.

GDDR5 memory continues to accompany us from several previous generations and surely this is the last batch of graphics cards to mount them, to make way for the new HBM memory chips. The card has 4 GB of effective 7000 MHz GDDR5 memory and a total TDP of just 75W, as we have previously commented.

We find a fairly simple design, with a single 92mm fan that is more than enough to cool all the internal components of the graphic.

A detail that we did not like about this version is that it does not incorporate a rear backplate… which improves both aesthetics, cooling and prevents it from bending due to the weight in our box.

As an important novelty is that this version does not need power from the power supply and collects all the power from the PCI Express connection . This means that we will avoid the use of wiring and it is ideal for small equipment.

Finally we show you the rear connections made up of:

  • 1 DVI connection, 1 DisPlayPORT connection, 1 HDMI connection.

PCB and internal components

To remove the heatsink we must remove four screws located on the chip and the heatsink will come out easily. As expected, it is not the best heatsink that we have tried and less compared to the Gaming series from MSI.

View of the PCB and its components with Military Class IV technology that greatly improves the ones it brings. Although the card seems little, it has a 3 + 1 VRM as standard that will allow us to do an extra overclock.

For benchmarks we will use the following titles:

  • 3DMark Fire Strike normal.3DMark Fire Strike version 4K.3dMark Time Spy.Heaven 4.0.Doom 4.Overwatch.Tomb Raider.Battlefield 4.Mirror's Edge Catalyst (New) .

All tests have been passed with the filters to the maximum unless we indicate otherwise. In order to have adequate performance, we have carried out three types of tests: the first is the most common at Full HD 1920 x 1080, the second resolution is making the leap to 2K or 1440P (2560 x 1440P) gamers and the most enthusiastic with 4K (3840 x 2160). The operating system we have used has been Windows 10 Pro 64 bit and the latest drivers available from the Nvidia website.

What are we looking for in the tests?

First, the best possible image quality. The most important value for us is the average FPS (Frames per second), the higher the number of FPS the more fluid the game will go. To differentiate the quality a bit, we leave you a table to assess the quality in FPS, but we will also have the minimum Fps in the tests that were thus possible:

FRAMES BY SECONDS

Frames for Seconds. (FPS)

Gameplay

Less than 30 FPS Limited
30 - 40 FPS Playable
40 - 60 FPS Good
Greater than 60 FPS Fairly Good or Excellent

Synthetic benchmarks

We attach the most important tests that we can do at synthetic levels, among them we find Time Spy, 3DMark Fire, 3DMARK Fire Ultra and Heaven 4.0 with DirectX 12 support.

Game Testing

We have decided to make the leap to checking various games manually. The reason? Very simple, we want to give a much more realistic vision and cover tests with current games. Since we make an effort, it is consistent with the level of the website and that of our readers. This time we have not inserted the graphics with the 4K performance tests because they are really irrelevant.

Overclocking

Note: Remember that overclocking or manipulation carries a risk, we and any manufacturer are not responsible for improper use, use the head and always do so at your own risk.

We have increased the overclocking capacity by + 163 MHz in the core to a maximum of 1683 MHz and the memories at +301. The result is a gain of just 5FPS… although not many, but at least we get a little extra.

WE RECOMMEND YOU Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on GeForce Now at launch

We are very satisfied with the result obtained, also with good temperatures and without the need for external power.

Temperature and consumption

The temperatures of the MSI GTX 1050 Ti 4G OC have been really good, with considerably less noise and temperatures than the reference model. At rest we have obtained 30ºC (always the fan running) and at maximum performance it reaches 58ºC in no case. As the overclock has been so mild, temperatures barely rise to 64ºC . We are not as satisfied with the noise at idle as the fan sometimes speeds up unnecessarily.

Another of the great advantages of this range is the reduced consumption that we have in the equipment. Until very recently it was unthinkable to have high-end graphics and get 55W at idle and 133W playing with an Intel i7-6700K processor at stock speeds.

Final words and conclusion about Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti

We reached the end point of the analysis and we can say that the 4GB Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti is a great entry-level and mid-range option that we can currently find. Specifically, this MSI model offers the best price in the series and more than fulfills the tasks of any user who wants to play Full HD and even make their first steps with higher resolutions such as 2560 x 1440 pixels, but for these there are other more recommended models.

We recommend reading our guide to the best graphics cards on the market.

One of the great improvements of this new generation is its low consumption and temperatures. Which makes it a real lighter and we can keep the whole team with rates of less than 60W and playing at 150W. If they told us 3 years ago, we would not believe them…

The model that we have analyzed can be found in online stores for just 169 euros, although we can also find higher versions that can reach 220 euros. Is the Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti a recommended card? Absolutely yes. Are there better options than her on the market for a little more money? Yes, both the 3GB GTX 1060 and the RX470 are better options.
