After testing quite a few motherboards with a Z270 chipset, it is time to try “new life”, specifically we have tested these weeks the Asus Strix B250F Gaming with a B250 chipset, a spectacular design and a high-end lighting system. You want to know more? Don't miss our review!

We thank Asus for trusting the product for its analysis:

Asus Strix B250F Gaming technical features

Unboxing and design

The Asus Strix B250F It comes in a large box in red. On its cover we find the Republic of Gamers logo , in large letters the model, a product image and all the certifications that this motherboard incorporates.

Already in the back we have all the most important technical characteristics detailed.

Inside we find the following content:

  • Asus Strix B250F motherboard. Backplate. Instruction manual and quick guide. Installation kit for Intel processors. CD disk with drivers. SATA Cable set. Screw to connect M.2 disk.

The Asus Strix B250F is an ATX format motherboard with dimensions of 30.4 cm x 22.4 cm for the LGA 1151 socket. The plate has a design quite similar to the Asus Z270Stsirx series that we have presented to you during the month of January. If it weren't for some minimal details, it could be said that it is perfectly a Z207 motherboard.

Rear view for the most curious readers.

The motherboard features two cooling zones: the first for the power phases and the second for the B250 chipset. It has a total of 5 feeding phases accompanied by components of remarkable quality.

View of the heatsinks and the 8-pin EPS power connection.

It has 4 available 64 GB DDR4 RAM memory sockets with frequencies up to 2400 Mhz. More than enough to have a high-performance gaming or workstation.

The Asus Strix B250F presents a very good layout since it allows us to connect two AMD graphics cards in CrossFireX but only one Nvidia graphics card, without giving us the possibility of having an SLI. It has a total of two PCIe 3.0 to x16 slots and three other PCIe 3.0 connections at x1 speed.

It is also important to know that it incorporates two slots for the M.2 connection to install any disk of this format and type 2242/2260/2280/22110 (42/60/80 and 110mm). This is great for us to save space, improve cooling and avoid more cables.

For those who do not know what the M2 connection is and what it is for, we recommend reading our article. Although, as you know, we can take advantage of the 32 GB / s of its bandwidth and connect high-performance PCI Express NVMe disks.

It incorporates a sound card with SupremeFX technology with the new S1220 codec that isolates component interference (EMI) much faster and better. It also incorporates the best premium Nichicon capacitors, an ES9023 DAC supported by Sonic Radar III software.

Regarding storage, it has six 6 GB / s SATA III connections with RAID 0.1, 5 and 10 support. More than enough to make the most of our entire storage system.

Finally we detail the rear connections. It is made up of:

  • 2 x USB 3.0.1 connections x USB 3.1 Type C.1 connection x USB 3.1 Type A.1 connection x DisplayPort. 1 x HDMI. 1 x DVI. 1 x Network (RJ45). 4 x USB 3. Audio 7.1.

To check the stability of the i7-7700k processor at stock speeds and the motherboard we have stressed with Prime 95 Custom and air cooling. The graphics we have used is an Nvidia GTX 1080, without further delay, let's see the results obtained in our tests with a 1920 x 1080 monitor.

WE RECOMMEND YOU The best motherboards in the market (April 2018)

BIOS

The BIOS of the Asus Strix B250F is almost traced to that of the higher Z270 models. It keeps almost all options, only that overclocking options are not enabled. Pretty obvious because this chipset doesn't allow it. for the rest it allows us to have various profiles, monitor temperatures and manage the speed of the fans. Very very good.

Final words and conclusion about Asus Strix B250F Gaming

As we have seen during the review, the Asus Strix B250F Gaming is treated in an ATX format, with unsurpassed component quality and brutal aesthetics. The incorporation of the B250 chipset does not limit you in inserting high-performance processors: i3, i5-7600k or the new i7-7700k but it does limit us to a maximum of 64GB DDR4 at maximum frequencies of 2400 MHz.

In our tests with the new i7-7700k and a GTX 1080 signed by KFA2 it is excellent. If we do not overclock, of course this board gets a lot of presence for gaming teams with a budget of 750 to 800 euros.

We recommend reading the best motherboards on the market.

One of the biggest problems is that we find that its price is 145 euros... and for this range the competition or Asus itself offer Z270 plates. The lighting system, the sound card can be a differential aspect in uttering it. But we remind you that the motherboard only supports 2 Way CrossFire from AMD, while with Nvidia it only allows us to connect a graphics card (take this into account).
