We thank Asus for trusting the product for its analysis:

Asus Z270F Strix Gaming technical features

Unboxing and design

The Asus Z270F Strix Gaming It comes in a large box in red. On its cover we find the Republic Of Gamers logo in the upper right corner. While in large letters the model and all the certifications that support this new Asus series.

Already in the back we have all the most important technical characteristics detailed. Undoubtedly, a recommended reading before starting with the unpacking of the product.

Inside we find the following bundle

  • Asus Z270F Strix Gaming motherboard. Back plate. Instruction manual and quick guide. Installation kit for Intel processors. CD disk with drivers. SATA Cable set. SLI HB ROG cable. Cup protector.

The Asus Z270F Strix Gaming is an ATX format motherboard with dimensions of 30.4 cm x 22.4 cm for the LGA 1151 socket . The Asus Z270E Strix Gaming motherboard that we saw a few days ago. Although it stays in a much more formal line, since the heatsinks are somewhat more robust and lacks a USB 3.1 connection.

Rear view for the most curious readers.

As is customary for past generations, dissipation is divided into two zones: power phases and one for the new Z270 chipset. It has a total of 8 + 2 + 1 power phases supported by Extreme Engine Digi + technology, 10K Black Metallic protection in its capacitors , MicroFine Alloy Chokes and Power Block MOSFET. That everything as a whole makes it one of the best motherboards in longevity and overclocking capacity.

As auxiliary power connection we have the well-known, 8-pin EPS.

It has 4 available 64 GB DDR4 RAM memory sockets with frequencies up to 3866 Mhz and compatible with the XMP 2.0 profile. Is it really so necessary? The 16 GB that we always recommend to last a few years is enough to play, but if we want to be well-advised, the 32 or 64 GB are ideal for workstations and gaming equipment.

The Asus Z270F Strix Gaming presents a very good layout, since it allows us to connect two Nvidia graphics cards in SLI or three AMDs in CrossFireX. It has a total of three PCIe 3.0 to x16 slots and four PCIe 3.0 connections at x1 speed.

Asus incorporates in all its STRIX motherboards the new SLI HB ROG “low cost” bridge, which increases the bandwidth between graphics cards and thus their performance compared to conventional bridges.

It is also important to know that it incorporates two slots for the M.2 connection to install any disk of this format and type 2242/2260/2280/22110 (42/60/80 and 110mm). Allowing us to make a RAID 0 and have a read / write of vertigos. All this is due to the increase in the LANES line, since we have gone from 20 to 24 LANES.

A must read to know more about M.2 disks: what is the M2 connection and what is it for.

It incorporates a sound card with SupremeFX technology with the new S1220 codec that isolates component interference (EMI) much faster and better. It also incorporates the best premium Nichicon capacitors, an ES9023 DAC supported by Sonic Radar III software.

Regarding storage, it has six SATA III connections of 6 GB / s with support for RAID 0.1, 5 and 10. And as we can see, it lacks the unused SATA Express…

Finally we detail the rear connections. Point out that we have an Intel i219V Gigabit LAN connection. In addition to the new USB 3.1 connections in types A and C.

  • 1 x PS / 2.1 keyboard connection x DVI-D.1 x DisplayPort. 1 x HDMI. 1 x LAN RJ45. 2 x USB 3.1 Type-A + Type-C. 4 x USB 3.0 (Blue). 1 x Optical output Audio. 5 x sound jacks for five channels.

To check the stability of the i7-7700k processor at 4700 MHZ and the motherboard we have stressed with Prime 95 Custom and air cooling. The graphic that we have used is an AMD RX 480, without further delay, let's see the results obtained in our tests with a 1920 x 1080 monitor.

BIOS

Asus has released in this series one of the most stable versions of BIOS and with the greatest number of functions to adjust. Among them it allows us to monitor temperatures, control temperatures, manage the lighting of the motherboard and its effects, easily overclock, have several profiles and have our favorite options saved. What do you think of the screenshots that we attached? Do you find it interesting? We love!

Final words and conclusion about Asus Z270F Strix Gaming

We come to the end of the review and we can say that the Asus Z270F Strix Gaming is an excellent motherboard. We liked its design a lot, since its relationship to the rest of the Strix range is identical. It supports up to 64 GB of DDR4 RAM, capable of super-overclocking the i7-7700k processor up to 4800 MHz and giving chest with a fantastic RX 480 or the most powerful to date: GTX 1080.

Shielding on PCI Express connections, two M.2 NVMe connectors, Nvidia SLI support, and 3 Way AMD CrossFireX make it a super-complete motherboard. Along with one of the best BIOS (if not the best) on the market and a much improved sound card.

Which is better the Z270F or the Z270E? For us, the difference between one and the other lies in the internal USB 3.1 connection and a price difference of almost 30 euros. Since in the tests the performance has been very similar. However, we miss a modest Asus Gaming motherboard of around 150 euros. What do you think of this new Strix series?
