Last September the Cupertino company officially presented and launched the new generation of its smart watch, the Apple Watch Series 4, to the public. Beyond its new design, something thinner and with a larger screen, one of the most outstanding features is fall detection. This new function makes use of the gyroscope and accelerometer to detect if the user has fallen and, most importantly, if he is not able to get back on his feet, issuing an emergency warning to the appropriate person depending on the country of residence. However, this function is disabled by default, so if you want to use it, you must activate it.

Activate fall detection

As we were saying, the fall detection function could be of great help in saving lives. Consequently, it is recommended that you activate this function, simply as a precautionary measure. To do this, all you have to do is follow the following instructions:

  1. From your iPhone, open the Watch application with your watch manager. Scroll down and select the SOS Emergency option. In the corresponding option, click on the slider to activate this option. By doing so, the system will remind you that, in the case of more active users, the watch could detect falls, even when they have not occurred, due to activities or movements of high intensity that the watch could identify as falls. Confirm if you agree with that.

It is true that fall detection sounded much more attractive when Apple released it last September, which is why perhaps many users prefer not to activate it, especially if the company itself is not able to ensure that it will always work from the right way. Despite this, I think it wouldn't hurt to activate it on your watch, just in case.
