How to change the forgotten password in windows 10 step by step

By default Windows 10 or Windows 8.1 assigns a username and password to access the system, using a local account or our Microsoft Account, which can be created quickly with an email. There is a way for the system to start automatically without having to enter our username and password, but we are not going to talk about it in this article.

What happens if you have forgotten your password to access the system? This is a problem because we can get to block the computer if we put an incorrect password too many times. The only thing we have left is to change the Windows 10 password, which we will explain in the following lines.

As we explained earlier, there are two types of accounts in Windows 8 - 8.1 and Windows 10, Microsoft accounts that use email and local accounts. If you are using a Microsoft account, you only have to enter the official site that is specially designed for password recovery. Basically they are the same credentials as your hotmail email. This is one of the advantages of using a Microsoft Account to log in to Windows.

If you are using a local account, then the process is more complex. We will try to recover that local account by doing the following:

Change Windows 10 password

We are going to explain this process with the Windows 10 system but it is the same as in Windows 8. What we need is to create a boot disk to delete the current password that we do not remember and add a new one.

We are going to download a small ISO image called PCUnlocker. We need to create a bootable disc, we can burn this ISO on a CD / DVD or more comfortable on a USB key to boot the PC with it. In case you want to burn the ISO to a disc, we recommend ISO2Disc, which is one of the easiest for that task.

In the case of using a USB, we will copy all the ISO files to this unit.

Make sure that your computer's startup is configured to start from the USB drive or from your DVD / Blu-Ray player.

Once the computer starts with PCUnlocker, this window below will appear. We choose our account where we can change the password for another. Now we only have to press the Restart button for Windows to restart normally.

On the login screen we write our account and the new password created. That's it, we can now access our computer!

Removing the image PIN or password

For those who use a PIN to access the system, it is possible to eliminate this type of password, both numerical and the image password. The main thing is entering as administrator, we can go to the Settings panel - Accounts - Login options. All we have to do is click on the Delete button in the PIN section.

Personally I recommend the use of a PIN to log in to the computer instead of the password of our email. The advantage is that the password with few numbers is easily remembered and also because we do not expose our email password too much, especially if we use the computer in front of other people.

As a final recommendation, a Microsoft Account is better than the local account, which is a single account for services other than Windows, such as Office 365, OneDrive, Skype, Xbox or Outlook, and we can more easily recover our password.
