Corsair AX860i technical specifications

Unboxing and design

As we are accustomed to, Corsair makes a first-class presentation and with bulky packaging for one of its flagship power supplies: Corsair AX860i. On the cover we see an image of the product, the 0DB fan and the specific model.

While in the rear area we have all the most important technical characteristics.

Once we open the box we find another standard cardboard box that houses the power supply (protected by a cover) and all its accessories. It is made up of the following bundle:

  • Corsair AX860i power supply. Modular cable kit. Instruction manual. Cable ties, power cable and screws for installation.

We have a power supply with a standard ATX format and quite bulky dimensions: 150 x 86 x 160 mm and a weight of 3.28 Kg. As we can see, its design is dominated by red and matte black in the background. Brutal aesthetics for one of the best power supplies!

Among its features we find the 80 PLUS Platinum efficiency certification that guarantees efficiency and maximum security in our system. The core is manufactured by Flextronics with Japanese capacitors that supports up to 105ºC and is compatible with 4th generation or higher Intel processors.

To highlight its unique rail that offers a power of 71.6A that make a maximum power of 859 W. In the upper area we find a silent 135 mm fan. To be more exact, it is the Yate Loon D12BH-12 model with size 120 x 120 x 25 mm, a loudness of 41 dB (A) and 2300 RPM .

The source is about a semi fanless. But what does fanless mean? Basically, the fan does not start when it is under load (applications in Windows, downloading or playing a movie) since the computer consumes very little. When it reaches the scale established by Corsair, it activates in its PWM (automatic) format and always keeps the power supply in very good temperatures.

The wiring system is completely modular, as we can see in previous images, it includes an LED that lights up in case the power supply has any kind of problem.

As we expected from a source in this category it has quality flat cables to improve ventilation and air flow. It comes with a very complete kit that is made up of:

  • 24-pin ATX connector x 1. EPS connector 4 + 4 x 2 PCIE connector 6 + 2 x 4. MOLEX peripheral connector x 2. SATA connector 10 x 3. Corsair Link cable.

To check at what level our power supply works, we are going to check the energy consumption of its voltages with a Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB graphic , with a fourth-generation Intel Skylake i7-6700k processor over another high-performance source such as the Corsair RM850i.

Corsair Link Software

As we have previously commented in other articles, Corsair Link technology connects via internal USB cable to our motherboard to function. The application must be downloaded from the Corsair website to have the latest version.

What does the Corsair Link offer us? Monitoring of the entire system and especially of our liquid cooling or power supply. It allows us to see in each lane what amperage and Watts are consumed, view system temperatures, fan speed and much more data. Is there currently any better software? At the moment not… at least in administration. Chapó Corsair!

Final words and conclusion about Corsair AX860i

The Corsair AX860i is one of the best power supplies under 1000w on the market if not the best. What kind of benefits does it have? 80 PLUS Platinum certification, security certifications to bore, 120mm fan, 0DB system and a single rail that allows us to mount an SLID of Nvidia GTX 1080 or AMD RX 480 without any problem.

We recommend reading the best power supplies on the market.

We really liked the incorporation of modular wiring and that its design is completely flat. This allows us to improve the flow of the box and especially the aesthetics of the equipment. The second point that we have loved is the incorporation of the Corsair Link software that allows us to manage and monitor the entire system and especially the Corsair components (Power supply, liquid refrigeration…).

In our tests we have seen that it is totally left over with an i7 6700k with overclock and a GTX 1080 at full power in 4K resolution. Can we ask for something more? Yes, 7 years warranty and do you offer it to us?

Without a doubt it is one of the best power supplies but also one of the most expensive, but every euro invested in it is worth it. You find it in online stores for a price of approximately 240 euros. By far the best Corsair power supply we've tested!
