Corsair HX850 technical specifications
Unboxing and Design
Corsair makes a presentation that is quite familiar to us and that we have seen in other models. A large box format, with a black background and a product image on the cover. We also see all the certifications that it incorporates and we see that we are in front of a high-end power supply.
While on the back we have all the most important technical characteristics of the product in different languages.
Once we open the box we find excellent protection in all components and the source protected in a fabric cover. The bundle is made up of:
- Corsair HX850 power supply . Modular Cable Kit Set Instruction Manual Power Cord and Adhesive Stickers
The Corsair HX850 It has a classic ATX format, whose dimensions are made up of 150 x 86 x 180mm and a weight of 1.95 kg, totally normal for the size of the power supply. Corsair has chosen to eliminate the blue color , so characteristic in this series. For the gray color, giving a much more elegant touch and that will perfectly match any component of our PC.
The core is manufactured by the prestigious CWT brand. As expected, it has a single rail with 70.8 amps, offering a total of 849.6 real Watts. We really like that they use a single rail, since it has been proven on more than one occasion that they are much more stable, and with the low consumption of processors and graphics cards we can mount a SLI of GTX 1080 Ti without any problem.
Internally it has 100% Japanese capacitors that support a maximum of 105ºC. This guarantees us greater stability and reliability for a long time. What's more, the power supply offers us a total of 10 years of warranty. Not everyone can say the same…?
In the upper area we find the well-known 135 mm fan with an approximate speed of 2000 RPM with Fluid Dynamic Bearing technology.
We love that it incorporates ZeroRPM technology . What is it? It is as simple as the power supply fan is stopped at rest and only activates when it reaches 40% of its load. I increase the line to a maximum of 25 dB . In other words, a combination of excellent noise / efficiency.
The only downside we found is that it is not a digital power supply and we can benefit from Corsair Link technology.
The cable management is completely modular, which allows us to make very clean assemblies and save the cables that we do not use. Both the meshing and the length of each cable are perfect, they could come lined or incorporate a Sleeving Corsair KIT as standard, but surely compatible models will come out in a short time.
Before going into more details of the cable set. I would like to inform you that it incorporates a switch to activate the “Single” mode or the “Multiple” mode. Single mode allows the + 12V line to be available for all connectors, while the multiple each connector has 40A over-current protection.
Without further ado we leave you all the wiring that comes standard:
- 1 x 24-pin ATX connector. 2 x 8-pin EPS connector. 1 x Floppy connector. 6 x MOLEX 4-pin connectors. 6 x PCIe connectors. 8 x SATA connectors.

To check at what level our power supply works, we are going to check the energy consumption of its voltages with a GTX 1080 graphic, with a seventh generation Intel Kaby Lake i7-7700k processor.
Final words and conclusion about Corsair HX850
The Corsair HX850 ranks among the best power supplies on the market and this year 2017. A good core, accompanying Japanese components, 135mm fan with 0DB technology and modular wiring management. This whole set makes it a really interesting component for enthusiastic users.
We have used the test equipment that we currently have in our benchtable: Z270 Apex motherboard, i7-7700k, 32 GB of RAM and a GTX 1080 graphics card. The stability in all its lines is perfect and we will have no problem mounting a GTX 1080 Ti SLI on it.
We recommend reading our PC Gaming configuration.
Currently we find it available in online stores for a price of 165 to 170 euros with immediate availability. We think this is a pretty good price for an 80 PLUS Platinum certified power supply.
