The German professional overclocker Dancop has been somewhat marked by taking the Intel Core i7-8700K processor and putting it at a clock speed of 7344 MHz with an Asus ROG Maximus IX Apex motherboard, belonging to the Z270 platform.

Core i7-8700K reaches a speed of 7344 MHz on an Asus ROG Maximus IX Apex motherboard, all the details of this feat

Recall that Coffee Lake processors, including the Core i7-8700K, are not compatible with the Z270 platform, although this is due to an Intel decision, and several users have managed to get them to work using modified BIOS. This has been the case for Dancop, which has used a custom BIOS of June 11, 2018 to put the Core i7-8700K at an impressive clock speed of 7344 MHz. The processor has been accompanied by a dual-channel DDR4-4000 memory kit with two modules of 8 GB each.

To achieve this, Dancop has disabled half of the cores, as well as hyperthreading, which has reduced the power consumption of the processor, to reach 7344 MHz and complete SuperPi 32M in a world record of 7, 609 seconds. The clock speed was achieved by setting the multiplier to 73.0x, with the base clock at 100.61 MHz. For this, a voltage of 1, 984 V and the invaluable help of liquid nitrogen have been used to prevent the processor from melting.

With this we have more proof that Coffee Lake processors can work on a Z270 motherboard, although it is fair to say that their VRMs may not be prepared to support the six-core models, but they can do it with four without any type of problem. You can leave a comment with your opinion about it.
