The Doogee Mix 2 has been released a few months after its predecessor. At this new terminal, it appears at first glance that the Chinese company Doogee continues to bet on a reduced bezel. The biggest change is given by the screen ratio. They have gone from the grid screen of the previous model to a much more panoramic screen as is the trend. Along the way, they surprise with the inclusion of two front and two rear cameras. Does it paint everything as well as it seems? Take a look at our analysis.

Design
As I commented at the beginning of the article, one of the Mix 2 novelties in terms of design is conditioned by its 18: 9 screen ratio (or 2: 1). That is, twice as long as it is wide. We find an unibody terminal with an elongated shape and little bevel on the sides of the screen, but with a 1-centimeter bezel on the top and bottom.
It should be noted that the little bevel on the sides for a matter. Before receiving the Mix 2, the front promotional photos showed reflections just in that part that gave the impression that there was no bezel or that the screen curved slightly towards the edge like that of the Samsung Galaxy Edge. Holding it in her hands, that hope turned into slight disappointment. Not just because of the bezels, but because of the feeling of having a thick terminal.
It feels good to hold, but the 74.7mm x 159.1mm x 8.6mm measurements are a bit excessive. Therefore, its 210 grams of weight are not surprising either.
There are large smartphones but the problem of the Mix 2 almost lies in the poorly stylized and rectilinear design of its shapes. However, the corners are slightly rounded and the side edges have a double bevel. This attempt to stylize the terminal fails to eliminate the misguided overall design.
As for buttons and connection ports, it is necessary to highlight some things. Two buttons are located on the right side edge at the top for volume and another one below to turn the device on and off. They have a fluted roughness that, although it removes some style, helps to recognize their position and provides adherence.
You will ask where the 3.5mm audio jack is, since it is not. If you have read what the unboxig brings, you will see that either the adapter or a Bluetooth headset is used.
At the top of the front of the Mix 2 are the two front cameras, the proximity sensor and the speaker for calls. There is no physical button at the bottom. Finally, in the back we find vertically the 2 main cameras and just below the fingerprint sensor. Next to them, the flash and on the lower back the DOOGEE logo.
The camera area should be emphasized along with the fingerprint button. That area protrudes about 1 millimeter from the rest of the rear. That causes them to suffer more damage. However, when using the case that comes standard, that part is flush.
screen
Doogee has mounted a large screen, specifically 5.99 inches. Luckily, both the IPS LCD technology and its 2K resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels make the screen look really good. It has a pixel density of 403 per inch.
On the other hand, the screen despite not standing out at all, has good colors and a viewing angle without complaints. It is always possible to modify how we want to see the colors by means of an extra adjustment in the options menu. Being able to choose a mode with more vivid colors or another manual to modify each parameter.
The brightness level of the screen is 430 nits. Which, without being outstanding, is enough to be able to view content outdoors.
To prevent easy scratching, Mix 2 has extra protection with Gorilla Glass 5.
Sound
Sound reproduction through the multimedia speaker is somewhere in between when it comes to power. It has a good sound without surprising and its quality is acceptable. It doesn't sound canned, but it's very close. On the other hand, there is no noise.
The 3.5m MicroUSB Type C Jack adapter does its job and transmits noise correctly to any headset.
OS
The Doogee Mix 2 comes standard with Android 7.1.1 Nougat and the Doogee UI customization layer that we could already see in the previous Doogee Mix, although with improvements. It really is a layer that I like because it is really clean and similar to pure Android with its app drawer. They have been smart and removed nonsense from the layer used on the previous model. On the other hand, it does not have many junk or unnecessary applications either. Only the gallery, browser, music and an application to manage the system. On that side, very well.
On the other hand, they should further optimize the system. I don't know if it is an isolated case, but since I started testing the terminal, the Gmail app closes unexpectedly every so often. And for this I did not find a solution yet. When the time comes to return and format I will try again and if the bug is fixed I will update the analysis.
Apart from being a fairly clean system, it also does not incorporate excessive extra adjustments. Among those it brings are: use of the terminal with one hand, open applications by dragging fingers on the screen or moving mix 2 and the possibility of capturing the screen on video with the volume buttons.
performance
Surprisingly, in this section we find exactly the same components as the previous model from a few months ago. A Mediatek Helio P25 processor with eight cores. Four of them are ARM Cortex-A53 + at 2.5Ghz and the other four are ARM Cortex-A53 at 1.4GHz. As for the GPU, it again includes an ARM Mali-T880 MP2 at 900Mhz and with two cores.
This gives AnTuTu a result of 61416. Not far from what its predecessor gave considering that the model we tested had only 4GB of RAM and the screen was 720p.
The operating system is generally fluid, but there are rare occasions when the terminal gets stuck for a couple of seconds. So having 6GB of RAM that this Mix 2 has is not indicative that everything will always go smoothly.
It is true that, pulling a little more power when using more demanding games and applications, the performance is more than correct. However, this will cause the device to heat up slightly.
There are two models of the Doogee Mix 2, the only difference is the amount of storage. In our case we have tested the 64GB but there is another model with 128GB.
Do not forget the fingerprint reader. Its operation is more than correct and despite not being among the fastest on the market, we must recognize its good work and tactile recognition.
Camera
It's time to talk about the camera, or cameras, since it includes four. The rear and main are composed of one of them by a 16 megapixel Omnivision OV16880 sensor with 2.2 focal aperture and autofocus; The secondary has a GalaxyCore GC8024 13 megapixel sensor interpolated from 8 megapixels. Both are equipped with a dual LED flash.
At the moment of truth, the photos do just enough outdoors in good light. Even with this, the photographs usually sin of a slight lack of sharpness. The colors are correct, but with lack of contrast and vividness. Another problem is autofocus, which is usually not as good or fast as it should be. This makes half of the photos blurry if shooting faster than normal. Other times even giving the focus time, it doesn't quite work as it should.
Obviously, if the cameras behave poorly in good light environments, indoors or at night it is worse. The colors appear very washed out, poorly contrasted, and the lack of sharpness is severe, resulting in poorly defined snapshots.
As usual in Doogee, the camera app offers a Pro mode, another for beauty and panoramic and the famous Bokeh effect. The latter is wasted since the only function that the software performs is to blur a default area.
Videos can be recorded in up to 1080p at 30fps. It is rare something like this, when the previous model with the same processor could capture up to 4K. Not that it was the best 4K, but at least I got it.
Anyway, just like with photographs. Video recording is not the best of this terminal either. The quality is acceptable, but leaves much to be desired.
The front cameras both carry the 8-megapixel Omnivision OV8856 sensor and 2.8 focal length. The difference is that one of them has a wide range lens. Specifically 130 degrees, which is usually good for group selfies.
The quality of these snapshots is more in line with what many terminals usually offer today. The photographs taken do not stand out in color, contrast or definition but they do their job.
Battery
We entered one of the sections that also looked good on paper. The 4060 mAh of capacity that the Mix 2 battery has speaks volumes. Although it is not the first time that the theory says one thing and practices it another.
In this particular case, it must be recognized that the battery exceeds what is expected of it. As the screenshot shows, the terminal calmly endured the two days of moderate use browsing and using social networks.
Like its predecessor, using fast charging, it is possible to fully charge the device in just over an hour and a half.
Connectivity
The Doogee Mix 2 supports 4G LTE and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity along with Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Display, and 5Ghz Wi-Fi. In addition, and although it is not new, it has GPS, A-GPS and GLONASS support.
Final words of the Doogee Mix 2
I will not lie if I say that I expected much more from this smartphone. At first glance the design was already disenchanting, but sometimes, it is something that can be forgiven if the interior shows knowing this and seduces. The screen and the battery are the aspects that come out winning without a doubt. Even the operating system complies. The worst stopped section is your camera. They can increase their price a bit and get a more or less balanced terminal, but that camera in my opinion detracts from the set. For those who want a mobile with a large screen, large battery, price around € 200 and do not mind a mediocre camera, this can be your mobile.
