Geforcgtx 1070 loses performance with vulkan
Table of contents:
Yesterday, support for the Vulkan API was released in Doom, a move aimed at improving game performance by replacing OpenGl with the new low-level API. After that we already have performance tests with quite surprising results.
Vulkan looks great on AMD while Nvidia drowns
Vulkan has many similarities to DirectX 12 so it is to be expected that hardware that works well in one will do so in the other and vice versa. With DirectX 12 we have already seen that the AMD GPU architecture adapts much better while Nvidia finds it difficult to take advantage and sometimes even loses performance.
The guys at guru3d have gotten to work and tested Doom under Vulkan on the Radeon RX 480 and on the powerful Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070. The results are pretty clear and show that AMD is able to take full advantage of the new API. seeing how the Radeon RX 480 achieves performance gains that can exceed 20%.
On the other hand, Nvidia continues to suffer and sees how the Pascal architecture is unable to take advantage of Vulkan, the performance is maintained compared to OpenGl and even decreases as the resolution is increased.
The conclusion seems pretty clear, Nvidia continues to have issues with asynchronous shaders in its Pascal architecture making it unable to improve the performance of its GPUs by using the new low-level APIs DirectX 12 and Vulkan.
