Intel announces its new basin falls refresh processors
Table of contents:
Already official, Intel has announced its new processors based on the Skylake-X architecture belonging to the Basin Falls Refresh family. Among them we find the powerful beast Core i9-9980XE with 18 physical cores and 36 processing threads.
New Basin Falls Refresh chips
These new Basin Falls Refresh processors maintain the LGA 2066 socket that arrived about a year ago with the first Skylake-X chips. They also make use of the X299 chipset, so it is not necessary to change the motherboard to mount them. There are seven new HEDT chips in total, including the following models:
- Core i9-9980XE (18 cores, 36 threads) Core i9-9960X (16 cores, 32 threads) Core i9-9940X (14 cores, 28 threads) Core i9-9920X (12 cores, 24 threads) Core i9-9900X (10 cores, 20 threads) Core i9-9820X (8 cores, 16 threads) Core i7-9800X (6 cores, 12 threads)
These new processors arrive to make life impossible for AMD and its second-generation Ryzen Threadrippers, which offer up to 32 cores, but with a significant limitation in access to the system's RAM, which hampers its performance in many applications..

If these processors seem impressive to you, Intel is preparing the new LGA3647 platform that will arrive at the end of the year with a HEDT processor of 28 cores and 56 processing threads. This new platform will have a memory controller that is expected to offer support for up to 192 GB of RAM in six channels, to offer unprecedented performance. During Computex this year 2018, Intel already showed a 28-core processor running at 5 GHz, quite a feat.
What do you think of Intel's new processors for the HEDT platform? Do you think they will manage to put the second generation AMD Ryzen Threadripper on the ropes? You can leave a comment with your opinion to help other users.
