New data places intel whiskey lake and basin falls later this year
Table of contents:
Intel has a slew of products on the way by the end of this year 2018, including the crazy 28-core processor the company exhibited at Computex 2018 at 5 GHz. We already know a lot about Intel's upcoming eight-core processors for the LGA 1151 platform, so it's time to look at other market sectors, especially the high-end CPU market.
Intel Whiskey Lake and Basin Falls if they would finally arrive this year
Wccftech has successfully accessed Intel's 2018/19 product roadmap, adding credibility to previous leaks that placed the launch of the 8-core Whiskey Lake (Coffee Lake-S Refresh) processors late in the third quarter of 2018 or early fourth. It is also stated that Intel's next-generation X299 processors, the Intel Basin Falls, will be an update to Skylake-X, and that the next flagship will be a 28-core model under this same architecture.
We recommend reading our post about Intel has omitted a small detail about its 28-core processor at 5 GHz
This 28-core Skylake-X processor is listed as a part of the A series, suggesting that the processor will not launch on the X299 platform, but rather will become a new product segment with a different chipset and socket. The prototype shown at Computex 2018 used an LGA 3647 socket with six memory channels, suggesting that Intel's new flagship will not be usable on X299.
The roadmap also suggests that the new Basin Falls and Whiskey Lake processors will be announced in October 2018. Remember that these roadmaps are subject to change, which means that the publication deadlines listed may not be 100% accurate.
