Intel wants to prepare for what is coming, the step towards 10 nm for its next CPUs and it will do it strong, investing more than 5 billion dollars in a plant that will be located in Israel.
Intel will invest heavily to produce chips at 10nm
Israeli Economy Minister Eli Cohen revealed today that after talks with Intel, the company shared plans to invest $ 5 billion in a plant in Kiryat Gat, located in southern Israel.
The Kiryat Gat plant currently has tools and facilities for the manufacture of chips at 22 nm. Definitely not covered right now in a state-of-the-art plant, but it is still relevant in the semiconductor market for simpler technologies.
The plant is located in Israel
With the investment that Intel wants to make in this plant, it would increase the technological capabilities to be able to manufacture chips at 10 nm. That the factory is located in Israel surely has to do with some tax benefits that the Israeli government agreed with the American company, in which both benefit.
The minister also stated that Intel will begin its investment this year, and that it has 2020 in view to start working fully. Naturally, with investment comes fiscal opportunities and government incentives, and Intel is expected to receive a 10% grant from the Israeli government to assist in financing these investments.
This is already giving us a clue about the upcoming Intel chips, which will be manufactured at 10nm until at least 2020-2021.
