Definitely Intel has put the batteries under the pressure received by the AMD Ryzen processors and it will do everything possible to reopen a large performance gap with its eternal rival. Intel has already started taking out the designs it had stored in the drawers with the 6-core Core i7-8700K but it does not end there, the semiconductor giant is already preparing an 8-core Coffee Lake processor.

There will be an 8 core Coffee Lake processor

New information suggests that Intel wants to go all out with its Coffee Lake generation to take a plunge at AMD and its Zen microarchitecture that brings Ryzen processors to life. During the second half of 2018, a new processor will be launched based on the Coffee Lake architecture at 14 nm and with a total of 8 cores to offer great processing power.

New dual-core processors that would correspond to the Pentium and Celeron families with four and two threads respectively are also targeted. With this, the LGA 1151 platform will be extremely flexible since it will give users the possibility of mounting very varied processors according to their needs.

What we don't know is whether this new 8-core processor will be compatible with the Z370 chipset or will require the new Z390 that Intel is already working on.
