Intel has announced something very important regarding its new generation graphics architecture Intel Xe, in which they confirm the support for Ray Tracing technology.

Intel Xe confirmed to have support for Ray Tracing

During the FMX event in Germany, Intel announced that its GPU Xe architecture will support Ray Tracing hardware acceleration. This is very important because it puts this architecture on a par with Turing when it comes to DXR and makes it far superior to software-based or GPGPU acceleration solutions (like the Pascal series).

Ray Tracing is a cutting edge technology right now and is in its infancy for the consumer market, but it has pretty big implications in the data center segment as of now.

The Xe architecture roadmap for optimized data center rendering includes support for Ray Tracing hardware acceleration for the IntelĀ® Rendering Framework family of APIs and libraries .

Intel has talked about Pixar, and how they use Ray Tracing technology via CPU, which ensures 100% accuracy in Ray Tracing implementation. Intel expects the film industry (among other segments) to adopt its Xe graphics. Although they have not given details, we should assume that Intel Xe graphics will be able to offer 100% precision in the implementation of Ray Tracing replacing the CPU, which would help accelerate the animation process of the film industry.
