The British government has been serious about Facebook and Twitter. As they comment, social networks do very little to protect minors on their platforms. Therefore, they want the two social networks to introduce new measures to increase the protection of minors. They give both platforms a month to present new control measures.

So in a month there should be new measures by the two companies in this regard. Failure to do so threatens new regulations and possible sanctions by the British government.

More measures on Facebook and Twitter

They have commented that social networks are very satisfied in breaching the terms and conditions regarding minimum age. And that they do very little to control if there are minors using accounts on their platforms. But currently both have minimum controls to check if the account is used by a minor. Something that does not work, since anyone can say that it is not.

It is beneficial for Facebook and Twitter that there are minors on their platforms. At least that's what they say from the British government. Since it allows both to increase their benefits. But, this is detrimental to minors, who are exposed to the harmful effects caused by social networks.

We will see if both social networks accept these requests from the British government. And what measures do they introduce to protect minors and better control. Without a doubt, they come at a time when Facebook and Twitter are in the spotlight.
