Today we wanted to do something more special, something very fashionable, and in the sights of many fans of modding and gaming. We tell you about our experience with Metro Exodus and Setup Corsair with iCUE. Because lighting is not only used to decorate, but to live more emotions in front of our screen.

We have been presenting products equipped with complete RGB lighting systems for quite some time, systems that until now, their main function was to beautify and personalize our PC. All this has changed and now the lighting of our PC is able to actively interact with what we are doing, with our hardware and now also with games.

Metro Exodus + Corsair iCUE: the new way to play

One of the lighting systems with the most impact and possibilities today is the one that comes from Corsair, along with its spectacular iCUE software. The brand has products with RGB lighting in absolutely its entire range of products, for example, liquid cooling, fans, PC chassis and even RAM memory with its impressive Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB recently reviewed on our website.

With all these, and more of their products, we can assemble an impressive setup full of RGB lighting. And the best of all is that all products can be synchronized under the same animations, this is the true power of iCUE, since with a few clicks we will be able to configure a complete system quickly and with spectacular results like the ones we will now see here.

Also, now new titles like Far Cry 5 and now this apocalyptic Metro Exodus, Corsair iCUE's lighting system goes one step higher to be able to intelligently interact with the game. What does this mean? Well, it will be the game itself that generates the animations of the LED lighting of the Corsair products that we have. This means that the system will respond to our actions in the game, if we are exploring, the lighting will be pleasant, with green tones and calm, but if we are in the middle of a firefight it will turn frantic and flashing red.

This and much more is what we have been able to experience while playing Metro Exodus with a complete Setup Corsair with iCUE and RGB products.

How to configure iCUE and Metro Exodus to sync

Well precisely this is the simplest of all. Surely you already know the brand's software if you have any of its products, but the truth is that it will practically not be necessary to use it, although we must take into account a few things.

The main thing of all is to have both the iCUE software and the device firmware updated to the latest version. To do this we just have to go to the iCUE Settings tab and select one by one the devices we have. We will have a button to update your firmware and another button in the lower part of the window to update the software. We also recommend restarting our PC by turning it off completely if we have Corsair Commander Pro installed in our chassis, so that the firmware is updated correctly. With the rest of the devices we will only have to turn them off and on.

Another thing that we will have to make sure that it is activated in our iCUE is the option of " Enable SDK ". This option allows the game to automatically manage lighting on our devices, loading its own smart profile on them during the time we are playing.

In the case of Metro Exodus we will not have to do absolutely anything else, just download the game from our Epic Games account and the improved immersion experience will automatically begin.

Immersion experience with Metro Exodus + iCUE

The equipment we have used to experience the maximum level of iCUE possibilities has consisted of:

  • Corsair Obsidian 500D chassis with Corsair Commander Pro Liquid cooling and Corsair LL120 RGB fans Corsair Vegeance RGB memory set Corset Air Void Pro RGB Wireless Headset stand Corsair ST100 RGB MM800 RGB Polaris Mousepad Corsair M65 Elite RGB Keyboard Corsair K95 RGB

Just by starting the game, the lighting turns into green, white and yellow tones to provide an atmosphere that is perfectly oriented to this Metro, a post-apocalyptic world located in Russia, with completely snowy landscapes, destruction at every step we take and radioactivity wherever we go. In turn, we will see a message in iCUE notifying us that the lighting is being controlled by external software.

In this way, lighting immerses us perfectly in this world, with green tones representing the color that we traditionally give to radioactivity (remember that radioactivity is invisible and that radioactive materials are gray and not green). Along with pure white animations, especially on the keyboard, our playmate and also animated yellow tones.

All this makes up an incredible audio visual experience that will surely leave one of our friends open-mouthed, with a Setup of such caliber. Although it is true that lighting does not influence our pure ability as players, it does manage to submerge us even in the weather, especially with the lights off and at night.

Also, the system is smart so to speak, when we explore we have smooth colors and quiet animations on all products simultaneously. Similarly when we enter the menu, the lighting turns yellow and white to better distinguish the control keys, primary and secondary. And when we are in the middle of a battle, the RAM, headphones and mouse light up in red to indicate violent actions. Finally, when they attack us and shoot the entire chassis, along with the keyboard and other peripherals, they begin to give strong red flashes indicating that we are in danger. Finally, when we die, the entire PC turns blood red. To this we must add the continuous color variations depending on the area we are exploring, since a wooded area is not the same as a city area, and also the lighting on the keys that we must press, for example, the L for lighter, P for filter and so on.

Undoubtedly a more than satisfactory experience and that more than one will want to at least try it in the first person to check these effects that are changing throughout the gaming experience, which in general is what is really sought. In this way, RGB lighting is not only simple lights installed on our PC, but one more extension of our playable experience.

Create your own lighting profile with iCUE

Although it is true that we will not be able to give the "intelligence" that the game itself gives to the system at every moment, we will be able to create our own lighting profiles and completely synchronize them all.

To start, what we have to do is create a profile in the profile list to work on it on all our devices. Then we will have to select one of our compatible peripherals and enter the " Lighting Effects " section of the left side menu. It is very important that we deactivate the option " enable SDK ".

It will be here where we will spend most of the time, testing configurations and animations. It is not only about choosing one of the predefined ones already, such as the rainbow, stale and so seen mode, iCUE allows you much more. Lighting management is done in layers, as if we were editing a photo in Photoshop. For each layer of lighting that we add, we will be adding one more effect to our device, and in this way we will create incredible configurations and to our liking.

Something very interesting about the program is that, if we have several devices, it will automatically create a “lighting link” to the rest of them, so that one of the effects is synchronized in all of them. In this way we will have exactly the same effects on our entire computer.

We have created a custom profile ourselves as a small demonstration of what we can do with iCUE. We have tried to recreate a radioactive storm in Metro with yellow, white tones and flashes simulating lightning.

Conclusion on the experience with Metro Exodus + Setup Corsair with iCUE

For us, the experience with an impressive Corsair gaming setup like this has given us very good times, and above all we have experienced first hand what the lighting of the devices we buy is capable of doing. It shows us that we can not only place a rainbow mode and that's it, it is a system designed for gaming, designed to really be useful to us. If you have the opportunity, you should give it a try, perhaps you will be more surprised than you think.

Not only Metro Exodus has lighting control, also Far Cry 5, the new expansion Far Cry Dawn and The Division 2 have their own animations. And soon the new games that are coming out will be added, because friends, that is the future of RGB lighting. Be really useful to generate a better experience in what we do on our PC, which, ultimately, is the livelihood for many people like us in the work we do.
