We continue to bring high-end Smartphone, and today is the turn of the OnePlus 7t Pro, which together with the 7t we will have both flagships tested and analyzed for all of you. This terminal covers, so to speak, the few deficiencies or little details that were missing in the 7t, such as incorporating a larger screen of 6.67 inches and curve, 4085 mAh battery or some extra modes for the triple rear camera such as the macro or super stabilization.
Obviously it changes its design, with a new distribution of the rear camera in the central part and a slightly more premium finish if possible and more elegant in our opinion with a retractable system for the front sensor. But we will see everything in detail below, so let's go there.
We thank OnePlus for their trust in Professional Review by temporarily transferring their two terminals to us for our analysis.
OnePlus 7t Pro technical characteristics
Unboxing
Let's start the analysis with the Unboxing of the OnePlus 7t Pro, a terminal that unlike 99% of devices on the market will not arrive in a box much longer than the terminal, although just as narrow as this one. It is made of very good quality rigid hard cardboard and completely painted in bright orange. On one of the sides we have a small motivating speech in perfect English and below the terminal identification.
The opening is a sliding type as usual, finding inside the terminal as the most accessible element along with the other accessories below it and above, which is why the box is larger.
The bundle for this model has the following elements:
- OnePlus 7t Pro phone Carbon simulation paste case Screen protector 30W Warp Charge charger USB Type-C - Type-A cable for charging and data SIM tray extractor Support and home guide Security and welcome sticker OnePlus logo sticker
We can see quite a few elements inside the bundle, although among them a few stand out. The one that more the charger, that fortunately offers us those 30W of fast charge that the terminal supports. It is a great detail to have the screen protector already installed and a high quality paste cover.
Along the way the headphones have been left, which could have included a Type-C as a detail, although it is not essential either.
Design brimming with elegance and sobriety
We now continue with the most important and differential section of the OnePlus 7t Pro compared to the normal 7t version. And it is that in the design is where we find more differences, with better finishes cared for down to the smallest detail.
The variety of colors is not going to be precisely one of its strengths, since we only find that Haze Blue, a gradient metallic blue that is much better in person than in the photos. Very striking for its finish, but at the same time elegant as it has normal reflections and are strange figures, with this it is enough to attract attention. To this is added its screen with curved sides and quite large measures of 75.9 mm wide, 162.6 mm long and 8.8 mm thick, giving the scale a weight of 206 grams. A noticeable absence from the competition is that we have no IP protection, neither to water nor to dust.
But let's see it more in detail, and starting at the back, in which we see a glass finish with a very smooth curvature towards the sides and the top. The blue finish is a very slight gradient thanks to what appears to be an interior aluminum foil that reflects the light if it becomes a mirror, and we think that it is more elegant than the 7t.
We also like the location of the camera better, located in the central area and in vertical configuration instead of horizontal for its three sensors. It is 1 mm out from the main plane and with a small edge that will protect the glass from the sensors. However, the Dual LED flash has been removed to the bottom area, as well as the laser focus to the top left area. Everything is in perfect harmony and better finish to justify the higher cost of this terminal.
We go right to the opposite side, the screen, which also changes considerably by having a 4D type curvature towards the sides. This curve is fairly smooth in the traditional style compared to the Mate 30 Pro for example, making it more comfortable to handle and leaves more room on the sides for buttons or grip. At the top of the screen we have the opening for the upper and call speaker, very well hidden and almost invisible.
The surface is very well optimized with 88% useful, although the truth is that it gives us the feeling of being even larger due to the huge 6.67-inch panel. That's partly thanks to having relocated the front camera to a retractable system, so we won't have any type of notch or eyebrow on the screen. Although it is not appreciated in the images, we have the screen protector already pre-installed, one of very good quality judging by the excellent touch it has and how well the screen responds even with it on.
So we got to the sides of the OnePlus 7t Pro, and we can say that the grip feeling is great. It is a terminal that uses it to the extreme edges for the screen, it has a fairly contained width almost like a 21: 9 although it is a 19.5: 9. In any case, these sides are made of aluminum with the same color as the back, but mirror type.
The connectivity and buttons do not keep too many new features compared to the previous OnePlus terminals. In the lower area we have the opening for the second speaker of the sound system, and right next to it is the microphone for calls. In the center is the USB Type-C connector and at the end the tray to insert the Dual SIM without MicroSD compatibility. In the very well disguised dark line we have one of the noise canceling microphones.
We go to the top of the OnePlus 7t Pro, where we will only see the retractable camera that is fast enough both to get out and to hide. At the other end we have another microphone, and in no case for a long time, we will have a 3.5 mm jack.
We finish with the sides of this Smartphone, in which we will have three buttons in total. The volume will be located on the right side, at a perfect height to be reached with the thumb or index finger depending on the hand with which we hold it. I am left-handed and have not had any kind of problem. In the right area we will have two, a three-position switch to toggle between vibration, silence or sound mode, and the lock and power button.
Finally we dedicate some lines to the cover, one built in paste instead of silicone, which is a success, although the carbon-style finish is not exactly the most refined. In summary, we have loved the design that OnePlus proposes for its flagship, sober, elegant and better used than in the 7t.
90 Hz AMOLED screen as good gaming
If OnePlus is characterized by something, it is to always bring the most top benefits package on the market at that time, and it is something that it has always been doing in its flagships.
So we have installed nothing less than a screen with Fluid AMOLED technology of 6.67 inches in 19.5: 9 format that offers a WQHD + resolution of 3120x1440p. This makes a density of 516 dpi, one of the highest we found. But perhaps the most interesting thing is that its refresh rate is 90 Hz, so the fluidity in navigation and in its use for gaming is a marvel for the eyes, since the improvement is very noticeable thanks in part to a touch input very very good as the manufacturer usually accustoms us already in previous terminals.
Despite this high resolution and refresh, it is not the brightest screen we have seen, perhaps it is one of the limitations with increasing frequency. In this case we talk about 550 nits, well below the competition like iPhone or Samsung, although in its defense we say that it is a model prior to them. The contrast ratio is 60, 000: 1 and supports HDR10 +. It offers 100% color coverage on DCI-P3, and great color quality and above all image sharpness thanks to the high resolution.
As we have seen in its design, we have Gorilla Glass 6 protection and also 4D lateral curvature, being a capacitive touch screen. One of the most significant features of the OnePlus layer is its customization capabilities, and this is extensible to the screen. From the configuration panel we can select between 60 and 90 Hz refresh rates depending on our needs, as well as between WQHD and FHD + or automatic resolution, thus reducing the drain on the battery. We also have the Alway-On Display function, the possibility of calibrating the color and many more to put it to our complete taste.
In general it is a very good screen, with good color and perfect viewing angles, and you could only improve the brightness power, which is something just for a flagship like this.
Sound system
We continue with the multimedia sections of the OnePlus 7t Pro, being the turn of sound now, in which we will be quite brief. In order to be at the level of competition and gaming terminals, we have a dual stereo speaker system. It has an opening on the lower side for one speaker and another upper opening above the screen for the second. The system implements Dolby Atmos technology.
Looking at the sound experience, we can say that it is very good but it does not reach the level of the terminals built for gaming, with a slightly lower volume and perhaps not so much detail in the audio. Let's think that the openings are smaller and the space smaller, surely being the main reason. In any case, it meets the expectations of the range without major problems.
As is common with high-end phones, the manufacturer has removed the 3.5mm Jack, having only USB-C for wired headsets or Bluetooth 5.0 for cordless headsets. Headphones of any kind are not included
Security systems
Another of the sections where the OnePlus 7t Pro can get a chest is in the security one, since both facial recognition and fingerprint are at an exceptional level.
And it is not for less, since, with such hardware, the processing will be very fast. First of all, we have a fingerprint sensor located on the screen, more specifically below it, with a comfortable location for the thumb at the right height and well centered. As in all cases, we will perform a first data collection with the central fingerprint and then it will ask us for the periphery of the finger to improve the hit rate.
And we can say that it hits almost always and with enormous speed, being the unlocking practically instantaneous. The animation changes with respect to the 7t, and after the various system updates its operation is impeccable.
And so is facial recognition. Perhaps you think that having a retractable system is going to be slow, but nothing could be further from reality as it is practically instantaneous due to the speed of the system. It detects our face and unlocks even before the camera finishes going full, awesome. In addition, it does so in even the most difficult conditions, with the face on its side, with a cap, scarf or non-mirror sunglasses.
But it does not do it when we have our eyes closed or when we show a photograph to the camera so the system is completely safe and reliable, a great work of OnePlus, being one of the best systems today and that we have tested so far.
Hardware and performance TOP
If OnePlus stands out in something, it is making the most advanced hardware available at the time available to the user. In this OnePlus 7t Pro it translates into a Snapdragon 855+ processor, with 64 bits and 8 cores that are distributed as follows: 1x Kryo 485 at 2.96 GHz, 3x Kryo 485 at 2.42 GHz and 4 Kryo 485 at 1.8 GHz. Next to it we have an Adreno 640 GPU working at 672 MHz that will give us superb performance for all kinds of tasks. As RAM memory capacity we have no less than 8 GB in the base version and 12 GB in the 7t Pro McLaren Edition variant. In all cases using LPDDR4X type memories.
For its internal storage, a UFS 3.0 type memory has been chosen as is normal in a high-end terminal like this. We only have the option of 256 GB of storage, which is strange because it is one of the few high-end terminals to not offer an option of at least 512 GB. In addition we do not have storage expansion, which is also a small disadvantage.
Next, we leave you with the score obtained in AnTuTu Benchmark, the benchmark software par excellence in Android and iOS terminals. In the same way, we will leave you the results obtained in the 3DMark and Geekbench 5 benchmark for those who are considering this model to play PUBG and other games, because it can with everything we throw at it.
As we can see the performance is guaranteed, being one of the fastest 855+ terminals that we can find, being almost on par with the Red Magic that has active cooling and 12 Gb of RAM. The optimization that OnePlus does with hardware and software is always exquisite.
As for performance in games and sensations, it is the best we have, although it is true that smartphone gaming has a better grip in landscape mode. The fluency is total in the games we have tested, such as PUBG, Need For Speed or Asphalt 9. To this we add those 90 Hz that will come phenomenally to gain even more fluency and speed sensation, although we must bear in mind that the terminal it consumes a lot of battery in this refresh rate.
Factory Android 10 operating system
Being a terminal launched on the market in October 2019, the OnePlus 7t Pro implements Android 10 Q already from the factory together with the manufacturer's own layer Oxygen 10. A very well established layer and one of the best we can find on the market today. With an extremely clean and minimalist interface that gives us an almost stock experience but adding a huge number of customization options for the screen, menus, widgets, etc.
The change of operating system has been phenomenal to optimize performance a little more by being lighter and with better task management. In fact, during our tests we have received the new Oxygen OS 10.0.5 update, which adds the new system security patches for January and fixes some errors such as blank screen in some applications. Likewise, the use of RAM memory has been optimized and the processing of the photograph has been retouched.
Versatile and optimized camera
We arrived at the photography section where this OnePlus 7t Pro defends itself quite well against the flagships of other manufacturers, having improved a lot over time. We do not consider that it is still at the level of the Pixel, iPhone or Huawei, but it is very close and above the challenge of brands such as Xiaomi and Oppo.
We also warn that there is no substantial evolution compared to the OnePlus 7t, since it definitely has the same camera configuration and only changes the telephoto lens and includes some new modes.
Triple rear sensor
The rear configuration consists of a triple sensor that we detail:
- 48 MP main sensor widely used, being the Sony IMX586 Exmor RS, which mount on the 7t, other flagships and mid-range / premium terminals. It features a 0.8 µm CMOS objective, 1 / 2.25 ”size, 1.6 focal length and optical stabilization. Being slightly superior to the IMX582 in brightness and performance in night mode. The second sensor is a 16 MP wide angle with 2.2 focal aperture and a 117 ° field of view. It is not the widest on the market, but those 16 MP are noticeable and a lot. This sensor is also mounted on the 7t. The third sensor is an 8 MP telephoto lens, with a pixel size of 1.0 µm and a focal length of 2.4. This offers us an optical zoom x3, and is the sensor other than the 7t, which is a 12 MP with x2 zoom. Dual LED flash located in the central part PDAF-LAF-CAF laser autofocus system with better features than the 7t
A macro photography function has been added, which directly uses the improved focusing hardware to be able to take shots just 2.5 cm away from the subject. The other novelty has to do with video capture, adding a super stable mode that improves pulse stabilization even more, which in itself is quite good. Finally we can record in 4K @ 60 FPS, and in slow motion at 1080p @ 480 FPS and 720p @ 960 FPS.

We leave a few screenshots where we have used most of the available functions that we indicate in the request of each photo. In this way we can compare the benefits in each case with the same scenario.
One of the things that we liked the most is the HDR mode so balanced and natural that this OnePlus 7t Pro has, increasing luminosity and definition without falling into strident colors as for example occurs in the Xiaomi. Although we have had the bad luck of having cloudy days with hardly any sun, we see that it is capable of giving us photos with a very good white balance and true to what our eyes see.
The wide angle has as its main advantage its 16 MP to give us detail in the photo, since its field of view is not too wide. The behavior is practically the same as that of the main color sensor. It will allow us to take pictures in portrait and night mode with it.
Regarding the telephoto lens, despite having less MP than that of the 7t, we have a x3 zoom that will come in great, and note that the captures are very good and in great detail. This will not be available in portrait mode nor in night mode.
Precisely speaking of the night mode, we simply loved it. The naturalness with which he achieves the colors in rather bad conditions is worthy of mention, since in the photos on the table we were in enough darkness to the point of needing flash in automatic mode. It must also be said that sometimes it is not capable of eliminating light reflections.
Front camera
And for frontal capture we have a 16 MP Sony IMX471 sensor with a CMOS-type lens and a pixel size of 1.0 µm. It is stabilized and has a 2.0 focal length. With it we can capture 1080p @ 30 FPS video, Time-Lapse mode and facial retouching.
The 16 MP front camera will allow us to take photos in both normal and portrait mode, with and without HDR. Its behavior is also very good, taking a detailed and very natural image in all kinds of conditions. In dark spaces it also performs quite well.
Application
The OnePlus 7t Pro camera application stands out for its simplicity, although this means that many of the menus and options are found on sliders that we will have to explore.
On the main screen we have the most relevant modes such as video, photo, portrait and night. Each of them has its own configuration functions at the top, for example the macro mode for the photo section and the super stabilized mode in video. By default the panoramic photo mode is set, since it cuts part of the upper and lower image to enlarge the image, personally I like the 4: 3 mode more.
Directly on the image we will have the buttons to toggle between main camera, x3 zoom and wide angle when possible, so there is no loss in this case. If we extend the lower menu we will have the other modes, such as the Pro, Time-Lapse, Slow-Motion, panoramic photo and the settings menu. In Pro photo mode, we will find a large number of adjustments directly from the image in real time, such as ISO exposure adjustment, color temperature, focus, etc.
The truth is that this application has evolved in a very correct way to position itself at the level of the competition in the range, with very good image processing and in all conditions. Perhaps the only criticism is that it is not able to completely remove the reflections of certain street lamps and lights that directly affect glass that in turn appear in the photos, something curious.
Battery increased to 4085 mAh
Being bigger than its brother, the OnePlus 7t Pro has a much more competent battery in capacity, going from 3, 800 mAh in the 7t or 3, 700 mAh in the 7 Pro to 4085 mAh in this version. It is true that the screen is larger and therefore consumes more, although we must also consider that the 855+ gains in efficiency from its previous version.
In any case we have the 30W fast charge function with Warp Charge 30T technology in which we will get more than half the battery in just a few minutes. What have we missed? For example, a wireless charge, of which we do not see a trace and that should have a flagship like this.
Here we must bear in mind that the consumption will be quite different with the screen at 90 Hz and 60 Hz, being somewhat more aggressive in the first mode. In each of the cases, with the brightness at half and carrying out the typical tasks with the terminal in Wi-Fi and 4G, we have obtained autonomies of about 11 hours of screen. Playing life is greatly reduced as is normal. On the other hand, with the 60 Hz screen we have reached about 15 hours with typical ones, so the duration will be about two days.
And we end with the connectivity of this terminal, which will obviously be very good. There is no lack of NFC connectivity and complete navigation pack with GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and Beidou. Network connectivity consists of Wifi a / b / g / n / ac dual band 2 × 2 MIMO up to 1.7 Gbps at the 5 GHz frequency. To this we add Bluetooth 5.0+ LE and LTE 4 × 4 MIMO up to 1.2 Gbps. In this case perhaps it would have been a good bet to integrate Wifi 6 instead of Wifi 5, since it is the most current technology and that for example have the high-end Samsung.
Final words and conclusion about the OnePlus 7t Pro
OnePlus has managed to make an almost round terminal, with a very elegant design and TOP performance hardware at a rather attractive price in the high / premium range.
In fact, one of its main advantages is the design of the terminal, with an excellent construction that does not stand out for being daring, but quite the opposite. A blue gradient on glass and metal very sober with well placed cameras and very tight measurements for its huge 6.67 ”4D curved screen. And we think that such a terminal should carry IPX protection, although we understand the limitation for having a retractable system in the front camera.
It is not the best screen that we will find among the flagships in terms of brightness, since it does not reach the maximums of Samsung or Apple, but we have a brutal WQHD + resolution, excellent quality in colors and especially about 90 Hz that come phenomenal to play and to enjoy a fluidity that is quite an experience. Perhaps in the next generation it will be one of the first to adapt 120 Hz displays.
That is directly influenced by consumption, and although we can alternate between 90 and 60 Hz from the system, when playing we will notice a higher battery consumption as normal. In any case, the 4085 mAh is a sufficient capacity for the terminal to last us a day and a half with mixed use at 90 Hz. We have 30W of fast charge although it does not charge wirelessly.
Visit our guide to best high-end smartphones
Regarding the hardware, there is not much to say, since in it we find the maximum available from Qualcomm in 2019, that is, a Snapdragon 855+ working at almost 3 GHz peak and 8 or 12 GB of RAM to give its own scores of a gaming terminal. We only miss a configuration of 512 GB or expansion by SD, since only a 256 GB option seems too little.
In the rest of the multimedia sections we also give it an outstanding, both sound and vibration system are at a very high level. As well as the cameras, worthy of a premium range in both versatility and image quality. With an excellent night mode, new implementations such as macro mode and an increasingly fine-tuned application. And finally the Oxygen OS 10 layer together with Android 10 are one of the best today, highly optimized, light and completely fluid, in fact the recognition systems are incredibly fast.
The current price of this OnePlus 7t Pro is 687 euros, and the McLaren version of about 851 euros. It is a fairly adjusted figure for the terminals that we see with similar hardware, and also only 60 euros above the 7t, so we think it is very worth it for the extras it offers us. A wise purchase and highly recommended.
