Razer Cynosa Lite is a keyboard that meets the basic needs of the hobbyist with the ability to create macros on the fly, liquid resistance, and customizable backlighting. Will it measure up to its competitors?

Don't miss our review of this membrane keyboard!

Unboxing of Razer Cynosa Lite

The packaging of the Razer Cynosa Lite is presented to us in a box-type box. Already on its cover and as usual we have an image of the product accompanied by the logo and model as well as a Razer Chroma RGB certificate. Some of your other highlights here are your membrane switches and the ability to create macros on the fly.

The model that we bring you to analyze has an American display, so that visually there is an absence of “ñ” and a distribution and size of some different keys.

On the back we can see a little more expanded information on notable aspects of the Razer Cynosa Lite, such as its resistance to liquid spills, roll-over on up to ten keys and customizable lighting.

The contents of the box are summarized in:

  • Razer Cynosa Lite. Quick content guide. Razer greeting letter.

Razer Cynosa Lite design

The Razer Cynosa Lite is made entirely of plastic, which makes it quite light. The keys have a matte finish, while the cover has a slightly pearly rough surface.

The only evidence of the brand to which it belongs that we can see with the naked eye is the imager in the lower central area, which is also backlit.

Frame

The top cover partially forms the switches of the Razer Cynosa Lite, whose profile is similar to that of Cherry MX. The frame itself offers a slight rear elevation in a natural way, so that the keyboard never remains completely flat even without the pins extended.

Turning to the reverse, here we see a total of four pieces of non-slip rubber of small size, as well as the label with quality seals, brand and model of the keyboard.

The two lifting temples present in the rear area add an additional tilt that is certainly appreciated. They do not have a rubber base, although the mechanism offers some solidity.

Switches

The switches chosen for this keyboard are membrane. It is very unusual to find this type of switch in Razer and it is clear that although aesthetically the Cynosa Lite has the appearance of a mechanical model, the membrane makes the budget somewhat cheaper.

The switches show a fine and rather discreet font chosen, engraved on the ABS switches by double injection.

The wire

The Razer Cynosa Lite's cable features a generous 200cm length, which is always a welcome thing. Its external coating is rubber, reaching a thickness of approximately 4mm.

Its connection point is produced through the traditional USB type A port, which comes with a protective cover that we can reuse. On the keyboard, its connection occurs in the central area and is not removable, although at both ends the cable has a strain relief.

Putting Razer Cynosa Lite into use

It is time to tell you about our experience with the Razer Cynosa Lite regardless of first impressions. When we connect it for the first time, it defaults to backlighting with spectrum rotation. This keyboard has Razer Chroma single zone backlighting, so the first thing we could see is that it is very dim compared to illuminated key-by-key models even at maximum brightness. This factor would probably be less noticeable if they had opted for a thicker font that allowed more light to pass through. Perhaps the main reason for not doing it is not to create a great aesthetic difference compared to mechanical models, although it is difficult to say to what extent it is a good idea.

The possibility of creating macros on the fly is always welcome by the most agile users, although it is also possible for us to do it through their profile in Razer Central. We also have compatibility with Razer Synapse to synchronize lighting with other brand devices (as long as it is a basic pattern). More issues to highlight in the experience is the Game Mode to block Windows during our games and a refresh rate of 1000Hz, ideal for gaming.

The writing and gaming experience has been less convincing due to the switches, which, coming from linear mechanical models, are hard and rubbery. This aspect is a personal assessment, however. We cannot speak for those of you who are fans of membrane keyboards. It does speak in its favor for its reduced loudness, something that is remarkable compared to mechanical models.

software

One of the most positive aspects of the Razer Cynosa Lite is having Razer Central and Synapse to make the most of its possibilities. This is one of our favorite editing and configuration softwares, so there are not many things that you are going to miss.

In the main menu of Razer Cynosa Lite we have the Configuration panel (left) to customize assignments functions and macros to keys, while in the center we can see the active profile in which these changes will be saved and that we can edit.

Also in the main panel we can set the game mode and keyboard properties in the operating system. Beyond this we have the lighting panel, in which we will have access to some basic light, brightness and off settings.

illumination

Apart from the switches, on the keyboard we find a total of five green notification LEDs on the numeric keypad:

  • Capitalization Numeric keypad Sleep mode Macro recording Active game mode

The backlighting on the Razer Cynosa Lite is done through a single rear area. This has certain limitations in terms of maximum brightness intensity, but it also affects the patterns that we can experience. The absence of key-to-key light prevents us from going crazy with Razer Chroma Studio with quirky light compositions.

Final words and conclusions about Razer Cynosa Lite

The Razer Cynosa Lite has seemed to us a basic keyboard model that can be ideal for the initiated, but that more experienced users will fall short. It has a correct design and good extension and thickness of the cable although it is not braided, but it is the switches that have seduced us the least. The membrane will always have followers and detractors. For those looking for a keyboard with a mechanical aspect but without being this type of model may be the answer, although generally the experience of both writing and gaming is usually more rewarding in mechanical models.

Another aspect to mention is lighting. This is not produced on a key-by-key basis, making it dim even at maximum brightness. Its default lighting modes are pretty basic due precisely to the lack of individual backlighting, which will disappoint light lovers. Broadly speaking, the Razer Cynosa Lite is a basic model designed for tight pockets, which is also a detail on the part of Razer. The ability to create macros on the fly and convenient liquid resistance is something that can always come in handy just like 10-key anti-ghosting .
