Razer KRAKEN X design

The KRAKEN X are circumaural uriculars in a matt black plastic finish. Weighing in at just 250g, they're probably the lightest gaming headset we've tested.

In the upper arch we have in relief the Razer logo, which has a shiny satin resin finish.

On both sides of the headphones we can find the Razer logo with its famous three-headed serpent in a shiny finish.

Also, the microphone is covered in non-slip flexible rubber, quite pleasant to the touch. It is not retractable or removable, which is a small detail that has disappointed us a bit.

Regarding the microphone, we find that it is a one-way model. the way it is assembled guarantees that the sounds collected are only through the diaphragm that we must place in front of our lips.

Also on the microphone, we find a button to manually mute it on the left earpiece. Under it we also find a wheel to regulate the volume with different levels of intensity, the minimum being barely noticeable sound.

On the headband, we start by noting that it is expandable up to 35mm on both sides. It has a total of eight fixing points to regulate its length.

Regarding the internal lining of the headband, it is padded with memory foam with a leatherette touch in its upper internal area. It is extremely soft and pleasant.

We should also point out that being a malleable material such as plastic, the headband is relatively flexible both widthwise and sideways. The hinges that connect it to the headphones have a vertical rotation of about 30 °, but no lateral rotation is possible as in other models of headphones.

Regarding the internal lining of the headphones, it is also viscoelastic while protecting the speakers precisely is a very fine nylon mesh. An interesting fact is that the padding is completely removable to facilitate cleaning.

It is accompanied by an extension with an adapter that subdivides it into an audio input and output jack, also 3.5mm. The total length of the cable adds up to approximately 2.5m when adding it, so players who have a preference for playing more comfortably can do so.

Putting Razer KRAKEN X into use

About the sound

Something that we have been able to verify during its use is that the 7.1 sound is only available through software in Windows 10 64-bit, so that should not be our main incentive to acquire the KRAKEN X. This means that in other situations it they generate is simulated surround sound. In his defense we can say that the effect is well achieved. We have conducted tests using tracks on Spotify and YouTube Music of sound recorded in 7.1 and we can affirm that the surround effect does it. The headphones do indeed have trigger zones to generate an immersion that simulates 360 ° sound quite effectively.

In general, the bass is deep, although the sound may tend to be a bit homogeneous in intensity. It's crisp, but neither the treble nor the bass is too far removed from the overall perception of sound. This makes the experience as a whole enjoyable and for players who use the microphone, it is a guarantee that the sound of the game will not “eat” that of the voice of their interlocutors on the other end of the line. In any case, they are of correct quality and do their job very well.

We must bear in mind that the sharpness of the sound can be completely circumstantial and always depends on the quality of the audio of the music or game that we are playing.

Over the microphone

The microphone is quite sensitive. For ideal use, the diaphragm should be in front of our lips while the ventilation hole is opposite. In this way, the sound of our breathing is reduced during the emission.

It is not very bulky and another point in its favor is that due to the manufacturing materials and the outer rubber coating, it very well preserves the position in which we have folded it whatever it is, so it is not one of those models that usually remain in our peripheral vision.

Ergonomics

Regarding ergonomics, we must say that the KRAKEN X are remarkably comfortable and light. Its circumaural design is spacious inside, which does not generate a sensation of imprisonment in the ears. Those of us who also wear glasses are quite comfortable wearing them since the memory foam also molds to its shape.

We can also mention that although they do not have any passive noise cancellation rating, there is certainly a certain reduction in external sound when listening to music, so we give one more point to the insulating foam that Razer has chosen.

Regarding perspiration, we have used the Razer KRAKEN X both playing games at home and listening to music on the street. While sitting we have not noticed a sensation of sweat or heat in the ears, but if you go for a walk with them, things can change. Imitation leather is not comparable to the fabric or other fabrics used for headphones, so they are definitely ideal for a more domestic or sedentary use.

Aside from this, since they weigh only 250g, the KRAKEN X is one of those headphone models that you can literally forget about wearing. Its continued use for long periods of time has not weighed us down at any time.

Final words and conclusions about Razer KRAKEN X

In general and after use, we must tell you that the Razer KRAKEN X does its job well when it comes to getting an immersive sound experience even though the 7.1 is not always complete. We believe that they have an affordable price for the brand, although we have missed a perception of higher intensity bass, since in general, although the sound is clear, it tends to be very homogeneous.

On the other hand we must say that the experience of use with them is comfortable and pleasant. Its very low weight makes them an ideal candidate for people who spend many hours playing and are looking for something light and comfortable. The sound quality of the microphone is also more than acceptable considering that it does not have external noise cancellation.

We recommend reading the best headphones for PC

The KRAKEN X is a good starting point to join the leading gaming specialty peripherals. We could say that due to the price difference it is possible that the Razer KRAKEN Tournament Edition is a better candidate in relation to quality / price, but if the limit is set by our pocket Razer leaves no doubt about its dedication to improving the comfort and experience of the user.
