Razer kraken x for console review in Spanish (complete analysis)

Table of contents:

Anonim

Razer Kraken X For Console is basically the console version of the younger brother of Razer's quintessential Gaming headphones, those Kraken 2019. In fact, we have tested this, and the PC version by our partner Ana Romero. Two exactly the same headphones except for the color, and little else.

In addition, I will give you my impressions of these helmets and the main differences compared to a reference model such as Razer Kraken 2019.

Before proceeding, we must thank Razer for their trust in us to give us these two versions of their new gaming headset to be able to do two reviews.

Razer Kraken X For Console technical features

Unboxing

Well we start as always with the Unboxing of this Razer Kraken X For Console headset, whose presentation has changed slightly compared to the emblematic model, being of course more basic but no less secure.

And it is that a flexible cardboard box with traditional opening on the top has been chosen. The entire exterior area of this model is painted in dark blue, clarifying to the user that it is the console version. Inside, we have a neutral cardboard frame that keeps the headphones isolated in a good quality plastic mold and that avoids all kinds of (slight) blows to the sound system.

In this bundle we have the following accessories:

  • Razer Kraken X For Console Headset Y Splitter For Separating Audio And Microphone Instructions

Well, absolutely nothing else, an extremely brief presentation, although at least we do have that divider to connect it to the main consoles for which it is intended.

Basic but comfortable exterior design

Well here we have this Razer Kraken X For Console in all its splendor, a headset that bears here, it is built entirely in plastic. Even the internal chassis of the headband we have built in that material. But before seeing the details, we present these helmets as the decaffeinated version of the Kraken presented this 2019 and that clearly stand out for their pistachio green color and for the white version.

This inevitably makes them of lower overall build quality than they are, using much more plastic and more basic elements of protection and comfort. We have already commented that they are entirely made of plastic, and therefore weigh much less than the Kraken, we speak of 250 grams compared to 322 of them. This shows that the significant reduction in internal quality and also in general size, causing them to drop by almost 100 grams. The positive aspect is that they are highly transportable.

The PC version is exactly the same, except for the color details that are black, while the ones we tested here are blue, simple and elegant we must say. Going into details about the headband, we have a simple bridge design mainly occupied by plastic in the fasteners and lateral extension mechanism. The entire outer shell is plastic and you couldn't miss the huge Razer badge on the top.

In the central part of it, we do have a small soft area made up of quite soft foam and a synthetic leather protection, presumably polyurethane. The padding is not too big but the flexibility of the polyurethane makes them more comfortable than they seem.

The natural position of these Razer Kraken X For Console is striking due to the fact that they have a very movable joint in both ears. This means that both canopies are practically always kept together and avoid malformations in the foam. In fact, this joint is still plastic and it gives us a perfect hold for practically any cranial configuration.

Both sides of the headband are telescopic with up to 9 positions, or what is the same, 35 mm in each position and the perimeter can be expanded by 70 mm. Not bad, and I think it is more than enough for all kinds of users. It does leave us a little uneasy not having a metal chassis, at least as far as we can see, we recommend then be careful to open them a lot, let's break something inside. In general, the comfort of the set seems very good despite being basic.

Pavilions with circumaural design

The Razer Kraken X For Console has a purely circumaural design that will allow the user to fully insert the ear inside, greatly improving the isolation compared to other models. This time it is also a configuration very similar to the Kraken, both by design and appearance, although with smaller measures.

It has a slight vertical oval with the entire outer area covered by plastic and a decorative grille that this time is not metal. The external measurements of the pavilions are 100 mm high and 85 mm wide. If we place ourselves in the inner hole, we have 60 x 45 mm measured by ourselves, while for example the Kraken were 65 x 54 mm. This will cause not all ears to fit inside, so it could lead to discomfort after a few hours of use.

If we make numbers we have some pads with a thickness of 20 mm and a depth of another 20 mm. More than enough to provide that phenomenal isolation. Inside the earphone we have a secondary color fabric protection without padding to separate the ear from the speaker.

Last but not least, we have to see the sound controls implemented in Razer Kraken X For Console. Luckily the manufacturer has chosen to place them all in the left canopy, since personally having it on the cable is quite uncomfortable for me. Much more in this case, since it is expected that we will be separated from the console and with the cable stretched.

The fact is that we find a wheel-shaped potentiometer for volume and a button to mute the microphone. They are basic controls, but they have worked correctly and in the way we expected.

Non-Retractable Rod Microphone

We still have the last element corresponding to the exterior design, which in this case is the microphone. And one of the reasons why the canopies of this Kraken X are smaller is that they do not need an interior hole to hide the mike. This means that it is a fixed rod that we cannot hide or disconnect from the headset.

In its favor we can say two things: the first, which is a fairly short rod, and the second, which is very well built. Razer has used a flexible metal joint that maintains the position that we give it. And in this case it does maintain it perfectly, we can even throw it back with a great curvature and still it will stay still.

Something that has not been included is a foam filter to beautify the end of it, which would be useful to filter the sound a little better.

Technical characteristics and experience

We will see a little more detail about the technical characteristics of these Razer Kraken X For Console, which will be almost the same as for the PC version. So let's talk about speakers located in a semi-closed chamber with a diameter of 40 mm and neodymium magnets of good quality and performance.

Speakers

The numbers that these will give us will be quite good for their price, with a frequency response between 10 Hz and 28, 000 Hz, thus exceeding the human audible spectrum. Its impedance will be 32 Ω and the sensitivity of about 109 dB, both values measured in 1 KHz waves. The sensitivity is high enough to exceed the recommended values to protect our hearing, so there is no fault in this regard.

Something important to consider about the drivers is that in the PC version it has internal software to reproduce 7.1 surround sound virtually. We do not have much less physical speakers for it, but we do have a little more optimization than the console version for PC sound cards. In any case, the practical result in both we dare to say that it will be the same.

We admit that Razer always does an excellent job on its headphones, especially analog ones where the balance of frequencies is very good. We are not facing an expensive model and even so the audio quality at normal and high volume levels is quite good, although it is true that if we raise it too much it will start to distort a little depending on what we hear.

The fact of having 40 mm drivers and smaller pavilions, makes the bass not as forceful as for example in the normal Kraken. In its favor, it has to balance the frequencies very well, although with a predominance of trebles for this reason, at least that is my perception. This means that we will listen very well through voice chats to our colleagues and the voices and effects of the game.

We had doubts about the resonance in these pavilions as they are smaller and made of plastic, but the truth is that they have very worthily fulfilled their role as bass. Of course, the sound comes out relatively easily from them without getting too much volume.

Microphone

If we now move to the microphone, we have a flexible rod with a single sensor with a response frequency of between 100 Hz and 10, 000 Hz. Providing us with a fairly acceptable signal / noise ratio of greater than 60 dB and a maximum sensitivity of -45 dB. The pickup pattern used is unidirectional to avoid capturing sound from around us.

And when it comes to sensations, because at least they have told us that they hear us well on the other end. The same happens if we use it for Skype or common tasks, and it is clearly not recommended for recording or streaming, since we have better options in the brand.

Finally, we must not forget about connectivity, which in this case will be analog via 3.5 mm 4-pole Jack. As an accessory we have an extender that in turn is a 3.5mm Jack splitter for separate audio and microphone. In both the PC and console models, this is exactly the same, so both offer assured compatibility with PC, Mac, Xbox, PS4, Nintendo switch and mobile devices. The manufacturer warns us that for the Xbox One we will need a separate stereo adapter, since it does not have an analog output.

The main cable measures 1.3 m, which is not exactly much, although with the extender Y we can go up to 2.80 m, which is enough for an average distance to the console. The cable is of very good quality, with a very flexible ribbed rubber that does not tangle. I only see the Jack connection system that can be improved, which instead of being straight has a 90 degree angle and I do not understand the reason.

Final words and conclusion about Razer Kraken X For Console

After a few days testing these headphones in the short time we have to play and also on the PC, we can say that the overall experience has been good. Especially when it comes to good sound quality, as the drivers are well balanced and sound great for the price.

We don't get those basses as hard-hitting as on other Razer models, but it's normal due to the 40mm diameter and having a slightly smaller, more basic soundboard. However, the sound is detailed in the games and the treble is fabulous.

Regarding the microphone, since we have nothing to highlight when it comes to its solvency sincerely. It provides correct sound for playing online and for chats or calls from Skype, but is otherwise basic. I really liked its rod, that we can bend it a lot and almost hide it so that it doesn't get in the way if we don't use it.

Finally, the design is also a bit basic, although it is proportional to the cost of the equipment. Razer is usually not cheap on their products and they have prioritized more sound quality than design. However, they are comfortable, very, very light and with good insulation.

We really liked the cable or cables that it brings to connect it, since they are very flexible rubber and that it prevents tangles very well. It is of very good quality and with good length to be separated from the console.

The Razer Kraken X For Console and the PC version that Ana has analyzed, we will find them in the market for a price of 50 US dollars. A similar cost for example to the Thunder X3 AH7 or the Corsair HS50 and also with good sound section.
