Fractal is one of the largest box leaders in the world. In these years it has earned a reputation for having the best SilentPC cases with aesthetics on the market. Now a new journey begins, that of power supplies.
Its Newton R3 range is characterized by its efficiency, semi-fanless system and its 80 Plus Platinum certification. In our laboratory we have tested: Fractal Design Newton R3 600W which has left us with a great taste in the mouth.

Fractal Newton R3 600w packaging and exterior
The new Fractal Newton R3 line currently features four models: 600w, 800w and 1000w in black. Plus a special white edition of the latter.
Fractal makes an authentic gala presentation. With a large, robust and very strong cardboard box. Inside comes rubber and plastic protections to prevent the entry of dust.

The bundle is made up of:
- Fractal R3 Newton 600W power supply. Instruction manual. Modular cables and storage case. Power cord.
The design of the fountain I catalog as spectacular. It has measurements of a standard PSU, with a length of 16.5 cm.
On the left side we have the Fractal logo screen printed and on the right the technical characteristics of the font. We highlight its 50 amps in its only + 12V rail (This makes a total of 600W riveted), also in the lines +5 and 3.3v 20 amps.
Its core is designed by ATNG and this guarantees us the highest quality welds. Regarding cooling, it has two high performance heatsinks, Nippon Chemicon condensers with an efficiency up to 105ºC and the secondary ones are CapXon.
At the back we have the typical bee panel with an on / off switch and the power input.
Modular cables detail:
At the front we have the modular connections. A total of six for sata and molex hard drives, and two for PCI Express 6 + 2. Which by the way are long extras.
As we already introduced the Newton R3 is a semi fan less font, that is, semi passive. It comes equipped with a 13.5 cm Sanyo Denki fan (San Ace 120) that is activated when the equipment has a 50% load. With high loads it usually ranges between 1100 and 1200 RPM.

Final words and conclusion
As expected, Fractal has not disappointed me. Its Newton R3 600W power supply is one of the best power supply that has passed through my hands. It is designed to carry top-notch systems: modular cable management , 80 Plus Platinum certification that guarantees us a unique efficiency for our system, Japanese capacitors of the highest quality and durability, CrossFireX certification for multiGPU and semi-fanless fan system.
It incorporates a 13.5 cm fan with a very quiet Ball-Bearing bearing, both in medium and high loads. In order not to make any noise at rest, it is equipped with the well - known semi fanless technology (semi passive) which are temperature sensors that activate the fan when an average load of 50% begins.
The source is modular hybrid, it has fixed motherboard connections, while PCI Express and Molex / SATA are modular. The presentation is 10, just like its finishes.
In short, if you have to choose a source for a gaming equipment or a silent work equipment, the Fractal Newton R3 should be your candidate, yes or yes. Its price ranges from 120 to 135 € approx. An excellent price for a semifanless fountain.
