Ryzen 5 3500x beats i5

A brief video review of the Ryzen 5 3500X has appeared on the Chinese video sharing platform Bilibili . Chinese critics evaluated AMD's SMT-free six-core chip and compared it to the Intel Core i5-9400F with the same number of cores.

Ryzen 5 3500X appears in a new benchmark beating the i5-9400F

The Ryzen 5 3500X and Core i5-9400F are natural rivals. Both processors are equipped with six cores and six threads. AMD obviously has the advantage that the Ryzen 5 3500X chip has a higher clock base (3.6 GHz vs. 2.9 GHz) and more L3 cache (32MB vs. 9MB). However, the two processors have the same 65W thermal design power (TDP). The Ryzen 5 3500X offers 24 PCIe 4.0 tracks and DDR4-3200 support, while the Core i5-9400F provides 16 PCIe 3.0 tracks and DDR4-2666 support.

Performance tests

In the video, you can see the Ryzen 5 3500X with MSI's B450M Mortar motherboard, a pair of DDR4-3000 memory modules with CL17-19-19-19-38 timings, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 graphics card. The included AMD Wraith Stealth heatsink and fan take care of chip cooling. Being the first performance tests, and by the source, we cannot give 100% truthfulness about these results, so take them with tweezers.

Based on the results, the Ryzen 5 3500X offers up to 5.52% and 8.05% more performance with a single thread and multiple threads than the Core i5-9400F in CPU-Z benchmarks.

The other test used was that of Master Lu, an equivalent to GeekBench but widely used in Asia. Master Lu's results show that the Ryzen 5 3500X works up to 4.82% faster than the Core i5-9400F.

The video review also included some testing in games with a resolution of 1920 × 1080. Unfortunately, they only provided the numbers on the Ryzen 5 3500X, so we couldn't directly compare them to the Core i5-9400F. This is strange, although they assure that it is at the same level as the i5.

Chinese retailer JD.com has listed the Ryzen 3500X priced at 1, 099 yuan which translates to approximately $ 155 on our side of the world. We will keep you informed.
