Today is the time to carry out an in-depth analysis on the Sharkoon Skiller SGS3 gaming chair. We do not usually do too many reviews of gaming chairs, but we asked Sharkoon one of its best-selling models to complete our model list, since a few months ago we dealt with the SGS4 model. This chair combines performance almost at the level of its older sister, with a class 4 piston, quality synthetic leather, and a reclining handle at a price of between 270 and 310 euros depending on the seller and color.
If you are looking for a gaming chair with great ergonomics and high quality finishes, don't miss this review.
Before starting, we thank Sharkoon for the loan of this chair and their trust in us to make this review.
Unboxing and design
Well, due to the enormous measures of this Sharkoon Skiller SGS3 chair still disassembled, it is presented to us in a flat style neutral cardboard box and completely disassembled by pieces to occupy as little as possible. Even so, the task of moving it within floors is very complicated, due to its 25 Kg of total weight. Nor can we complain since the SGS4 weighed almost 30 Kg.
In any case, the wrapping is practically the same, a huge screenprint on the side showing the make and model along with a sketch of the chair. The opening is always made through the widest area of the box and with the letters always in the normal reading position. What we find inside are all the pieces stacked on top of each other and protected with plastic bags and flexible polyethylene foam panels. The rest of the accessories are included in a separate cardboard box and in turn inside the main box.
In total we will have the following accessories and parts:
- Backrest Seat base with pre-installed armrests 5-arm aluminum base Chair movement mechanism 5 Wheels Class 4 gas piston Telescopic piston cover 2 Trim caps for backrest Lumbar and cervical cushion Instruction manual Mounting screws Two-size Allen wrenches
See that everything is in order when yours arrives, to avoid misunderstandings with the delivery men.
Building
Sharkoon Skiller SGS3 is presented to us with a design quite similar to the higher performance SGS4 model, and it is for this reason that it has been such a successful chair among the community. However, throughout the review we can see that it is a little smaller and with less general capacity, as we must understand in a lower-priced model.
In any case, the chair is built on a thick steel tubular chassis with a diameter of 20 to 22 mm, both its back and its seat. It also largely serves as the main mold. Likewise, the central area of the backrest and seat have several transversal steel plates to provide rigidity to the whole. Just to them, straps have also been installed to give that little extra mobility. All this will be better appreciated when we look in more detail at the parts.
As a covering, the brand has installed a high-density foam mold made of a single block in the seat and backrest. This mold offers a slightly lower density than in the upper model, between 60 and 65 Kg / m 3, the backrest mold always being the one with the highest density. On this, and as a final finish, we have upholstery made of PVC synthetic leather with high resistance thread seams and trims. It is available in two-tone colors, Black, Black / Blue, Black / Red, Black / Green, Black / White, so we have a very interesting palette.
They are fantastic finishes, but the only downside is that this material in summer is going to give us quite a bit of heat. But at least it is impervious to liquids and dirt and is easily cleaned with traditional cleaning products.
Components and performance
Given the general description of the Sharkoon Skiller SGS3 chair , it is time to take a closer look at each of the components detailing measurements and other characteristics of interest.
Legs and wheels
And the first element that we will take out of the box is the structure of the legs and the cardboard box where the wheels are stored.
Regarding this base, it is completely built in aluminum and a five-armed monocoque and it really is an element that weighs little, although as we can see in the screenshots, it is quite forceful thickness. At each end they have a hole in which we simply have to insert the wheel so that it is fixed.
And speaking of the wheels, they are exactly the same as those of the Skiller SGS4 model . They have a diameter of 75 mm with nylon coating on the tread to improve displacement and reduce noise as much as possible. And the truth is that they are very quiet wheels and they move great thanks to their ball bearings. Each of them has a manual brake installed that can be easily operated with the foot.
Inserting them into the legs will be as easy as pressing in, a system of pressure washer will keep it fixed, but without being impossible to uninstall it. This coating after a lot of use will wear out as it is normal, until we stay in normal and ordinary plastic.
Piston and movement mechanism
The next element that we have to mount will be the piston which will be in charge of supporting all our weight and allowing the chair to be lowered and raised. Sharkoon Skiller SGS3 has a class 4 gas piston with DIN 4550 safety certification capable of supporting a maximum recommended weight of 120 Kg.
The maximum travel will be 6.5 cm and the seat can be raised to a maximum of 55 cm, starting from a base height of 48.5 cm. It is not a stratospheric route, but it is not offered practically in all upper-middle range chairs. Like all of them, in the box is the three-component plastic trim to place before we install it on the chair.
Now we are going to go to the support of the handle that connects it to the piston, and where the mechanisms are located to provide functionality to the assembly. Aesthetically it is similar to practically all, although we will note that there are two levers that will function to raise and lower the piston and to block the inclination of the chair.
Obviously we have a rocker function thanks to a manual adjustable pressure spring located in the front area of the mechanism and that we will notice in the foreground in the photo. This tilt function will go from 0 to 14 or always backwards and as we have said, it can be locked at different angles or completely so that the handle does not move.
An interesting detail is knowing that the mechanism gap is well greased. It may seem silly, but if the fat is missing here after a short period of time we will begin to hear squeaks every time we move.
Many people associate the squeaks with the poor quality of the chair, but it is simply for lack of lubrication in the elements that move, lever, backrest, piston and seat. It happens to almost all chairs and you just have to locate the noise zone and re-grease it.
Back and cushions
The backrest of this Sharkoon Skiller SGS3 is completely lined in synthetic leather with thread stitching in the secondary color and nicely finished edges. In the neck area we have the two classic openings of the competition bucket seats with hard plastic trim. The logo of the central area is made of thread sewn to the synthetic leather, as well as the distinctive "SKILLER".
It is a high backrest with measures of 85 cm in height, and a maximum shoulder width of 49 cm. It is not too much, so perhaps it is a little small for especially wide and heavy people, so we always recommend trying a chair before buying it. In any case, for an average person of between 70 and 100 kilos of normal complexion you will not have comfort problems.
This backrest is adjustable in inclination thanks to a lever located on the seat, and which we will now see. The range is from 90 to 160 degrees, and it is possible to block ourselves at different angles.
Like other models, Sharkoon Skiller SGS3 includes two cushions to place them on the backrest, the largest for the lumbar area (below) and one for the cervical area as headrests.
Seat and armrests
The seat has some finishes equal to the backrest, and we do not have any breathable holes as in the case of the SGS4. Like the upper area, it has strong ears on the sides to keep the body secure. The measurements of the interior area are 50 cm deep by 38 cm wide. If we count the ears from end to end they give a total of 53 cm.
The truth is that it is not a wide grip, and for thick users of buttocks they are surely going to find something tighter than they would like. Again for someone with a normal height and weight there will be no problems, but this handle allows less width than the backrest, and this I noticed at the moment of sitting on it. In my case I have a SGS2 for daily, and it has a slightly wider seat (50 x 39.5 cm) and fewer ears (55 cm), and I feel more comfortable in it.
That said, which I consider important, we have a lever in the right area to recline the seat, and the two corresponding supports to install the backrest to it. Do not look for the screws in the bag, because they come threaded from the factory.
If we turn the seat of the Sharkoon Skiller SGS3 around, we will be able to see more clearly the way in which this has been built. We have a total of four steel tubes supporting our weight, along with a harness at the front so that the edge of the grip is flexible but does not deform.
Regarding the armrests, they are made of padded rubber and allow movement on all four axes. We can raise and lower them from 30 cm to 38 cm with the external lever, and also lock them in different positions. Rotate them in or out at a relatively wide angle, and also move them forwards or backwards and can lock us in different positions.
The feel of the touch is good, but as with the SGS4, these armrests are noticeable with some slack, it is not serious, but they give a feeling of being too tight.
Finally, to install the backrest on the seat, we will have to remove the four screws, place this backrest and then screw the screws back into it with its two washers. Once this is done, in the small box we have two trims that we will place on each side of the chair and that we will adjust with the two screws available in the bag.
Sharkoon Skiller SGS3 final appearance
At this point you should have the assembly done, because it is certainly very simple and we only have to attend to the steps that the manual marks and ready. In about 15 or 20 minutes we should have it ready.
Something that we must consider is that when putting the piston both in the area of the legs and the seat there will be no turning back. It is so well fixed under pressure that it will be practically impossible to remove it without hitting it well.
Final words and conclusion about Sharkoon Skiller SGS3
This Sharkoon Skiller SGS3 gaming chair presents us with a very good build quality, and at the level of its top sister. The differences in finishes are in the details, for example, not having breathable holes in the backrest, or presenting a somewhat more aesthetically basic sewing design.
The most important difference is undoubtedly in the general measures, since it is a somewhat smaller chair in general than the SGS4, both in its seat and its backrest. We insist, it is normal, since it is an inferior model, and this SGS3 will be more focused on less corpulent and physically narrower people, where they will really feel more comfortable.
The mounting system is as comfortable and basic as ever, practically in a few minutes we will have it ready to use. Its chassis is of a high quality and the feeling that it gives sitting is of durability thanks to that foam mold of quite hardness. The only negative aspect, which coincides with all the synthetic leather chairs, is that at high temperature it will give enough heat, although for that we already have the SGS2 which is made of fabric.
We recommend reading the best PC chairs on the market
It comes in various colors with very striking results, for me perhaps one of the most aesthetically beautiful chairs. A small negative note is that the armrests have too much slack, giving a lower quality feeling. But the ergonomics of the whole set are fantastic, 4D arms, reclining seat and rocker function with block in various positions.
This Sharkoon Skiller SGS3 chair will be found on the market at a price between 270 euros and 310 euros approximately. Everything will depend on the store that distributes it and the colors we choose. Without a doubt a great purchase for demanding users and who want a chair that lasts a long time, although beware if you are of strong build, perhaps you should go to the top model.
