A few months ago Sharkoon announced the Sharkoon Skiller SGS4, its flagship in terms of Gaming chairs. A chair of large dimensions, robust and with good materials and finishes that is intended only for the most demanding users.
This new gaming chair bets on a sporty design, but at the same time stately due to its wide grips and backrests and its stylized lines. Let's see what the top model of the brand offers, let's play for hours on top of this chair to see what it offers!
First of all we thank Sharkoon for giving us this product for analysis.
Technical characteristics Sharkoon Skiller SGS4
Unboxing and design
This Sharkoon Skiller SGS4 is presented to us in a huge box of no less than almost 30 Kg. Inside it come each of the parts of the chair disassembled, wrapped in plastic bags and protected from each other by flexible white cork. Also, all the little parts like wheels, piston etc. They come in a separate cardboard box to avoid damaging the chair materials.
Inside the box we can find all the elements that make up the chair. Which are:
- 1 Backrest1 Seat base1 5-arm base2 Armrest1 Chair movement mechanism5 Wheels1 Gas piston1 Piston lining2 Backrest trim caps1 back cushion1 head cushion1 instruction manual2 M61 screws Allen key M61 Allen key M8
The Sharkoon Skiller SGS4 weighs 28.9 Kg, thus denoting the quality and strength of the materials. Despite being a large chair, it practically doubles the SGS1 model of the same brand. It has an internal structure made of steel, covered by high-density polyurethane foam, between 60 and 70 kg / m 3. The entire structure is upholstered in PVC synthetic leather. The color black predominates with lines on each of the sides, both of the backrest and of the seat and the two pads that will be available in various colors, blue, green, red, white and black.
Mounting
The first thing we will have to mount will be the wheels at the base of the chair. This base is made of aluminum and consists of five arms. The wheels on the other hand are made of hard plastic covered with a slightly softer layer to be able to eliminate noise when moving. They are large wheels since their diameter is 75 mm and each has an individual brake. To insert the wheels in the base we will only have to press each of them on the coupling hole
The next thing in this Sharkoon Skiller SGS4 will be to attach the piston to the aluminum base and its respective protective telescopic cover. To install it, it will only be necessary to introduce it in the central hole, the weight of the set and our own will do the fixing work. This class 4 gas piston is designed to support a weight of 150 Kg. The base is ready to install the seat.
The method of attaching the armrests to the seat is by means of a steel bar fixed at the bottom with four screws on each side and two screws that fix each of the armrests to this central bar. This chair does not have a wooden frame to support the high-density foam. Instead, it is a structure of steel bars and harnesses that will ensure greater longevity and less deformation of the product.
The next thing to do is to fix the chair mechanism to the seat. For this we remove the four screws that are located in the seat and align the holes with those of the mechanism. Next, we introduce the screw, first with the normal washers and then with the pressure washers on top of them. Finally we fix the assembly to the seat until it does not move.
In this step we must emphasize that in the instructions it suggests that we place the backrest on the seat before the mechanism. We do not recommend doing it this way since, placing them in this way, we would find ourselves with a set that is too heavy and in a bad position to install the mechanism.
This mechanism will allow a range of inclination of the chair from 0 to 14 degrees, we can also lock it at the angle we want using a lever located on our left. On the right we will have the lever to move the gas piston.
After placing the seat at the base of the chair the set will be fixed, once again our weight will do all the work to secure both components. The next and last thing will be to put the backrest in position.
This backrest has a height of 87 cm and a shoulder width of 60.5 cm. In the center we find the logo of the large brand and embroidered with silver thread. Like the seat, part of the backrest is breathable.
The Sharkoon Skiller SGS4 ensures good support for people up to 200 cm in height. This is possible thanks to a non-negligible headrest in size and quite comfortable. On the front we find the identity of the brand also embroidered in silver thread and on the back the “SKILLER” badge with the same finish.
To place the backrest on the seat we remove the screws of the latter (two on each side) and place the backrest on the steel fixing bars. Next, we fix them with the screws and put on the plastic trim caps. It's time to use the only two screws that come in the bag. The set will already be fully assembled
The armrests allow a 4D movement, each one of them will have to press a button and apply the movement where we want. The price to pay for this mobility is that we find some armrests with some oscillation and a feeling of fragility. Also note that they are not padded, so throughout the hours we may notice tingling in the forearms due to the hardness.
Finally we will install the cushions on the back and the head. These are covered in fabric of the same color as the details of the chair.
Experience
The assembly was extremely fast, no more than 10 or 15 minutes. Just take into account what we have explained about mounting the chair mechanism before the backrest. The screws fit perfectly and the alignment is quite easy to achieve.
It is a fairly large and heavy chair so it is aimed at people of medium / large complexion. The breathable coating along with a high density foam and considerable padding will allow us to be comfortable for hours.
The system will allow us to position ourselves at heights of between 51.5 and 58 cm, sufficient range, although generally high for small people.
The backrest of the Sharkoon Skiller SGS4 can be lowered using a lever on our right. With a simple click we can scale it from 90 to a generous 160 degrees. This compensates for the low tilt range that the chair mechanism allows.
Note: We consider it important to inform that to completely lower the chair we lock the mechanism, since if we leave it free we will probably end up on the ground.
For its part, the armrests allow a minimum height of 28.5 and a maximum of 37.5 cm. Additionally, they will be able to move forward / backward, inward / outward, and rotate on themselves around 15 degrees.
Final words and conclusion of Sharkoon Skiller SGS4
Sharkoon is committed to excellence with this Sharkoon Skiller SGS4, a model of considerable size that will ensure comfort for hours. We also have it available in various colors. The model that we have tested in concrete is cyan blue, a discreet color and pleasing to the eye.
In terms of comfort, it meets all the requirements that can be requested: 4D armrests, folding backrest, secure and functional lock and adaptability with the two cushions available.
Despite its size, it is a chair with smooth movement and almost no noise thanks to its large wheels with individual brakes included, which on the other hand do their job very well. Although it is true that perhaps on rough surfaces or over time their wear can be important, because they are covered with soft material
We recommend reading the best PC chairs on the market
Perhaps a weak point could be the finish of its armrests that do not have padding and its large size that does not make it especially suitable for small people.
In summary, a Sharkoon Skiller SGS4 with excellent features and finishes, without a doubt one of the best we have tested. We can find it in the market for prices that can range between 310 and 370 €.
