In the total of the 6 motherboards that the Gigabyte gaming division has presented, perhaps the most technically interesting are this Gigabyte X570 AORUS Master and X570 AORUS Extreme. Two AMD X570 chipset boards with PCIe 4.0 support and 3rd generation Ryzen CPU.

X570 chipset prepared for the new generation of AMD gaming PC

Undoubtedly one of the main attractions of this Computex 2019 electronics fair is being the great news that AMD brings with its new 7nm CPUs AMD Ryzen 3700X, 3800X and 3900X as the first wave.

We already know that these CPUs will be compatible with all current motherboards that have 1st and 2nd generation Ryzen compatible AM4 socket. But the manufacturer is not going to settle for sticking its new CPUs in previous generation motherboards, so it has launched its X570 chipset that increases the benefits and performance of the new boards.

Among these novelties stands out the support for PCIe 4.0, capable of offering us twice the performance of traditional PCIe 3.0, we are talking about 2000 MB / s in the data line both up and down. In the same way, all these new boards offer Wi-Fi 6 support and connectivity, that is, wireless connectivity under the 802.11ax protocol, much faster and more efficient than Wi-Fi 5. Nor do we forget the 20 PCIe Lanes that it offers This chipset is ideal for M.2 4.0 SSDs that are already on the market.

Let's now see the characteristics of these two plates:

Gigabyte X570 AORUS Master

Starting with its design, we see an ATX format plate full of details in the form of aluminum heatsinks both in the VRM area and in the three M.2 and chipset. In fact, we can notice that this chipset is more powerful for the simple fact of having active cooling behind the heatsink with a small fan. AORUS has also opted to permanently attach the port panel sheet and the illuminated side shield.

So we have an improved VRM with 14 digital power phases with PowlRstage which have also been improved over the previous generation to offer a better signal for 7nm CPUs. It also offers four DIMM slots for 128 GB of DDR4-3200 MHz RAM on Dual Channel.

In this specification, we have a total of three PCIe x16 slots, of which the first two are 4.0 working at x16 and x8, and the third is 4.0 working at x8. They are compatible with Nvidia SLI 2-way and AMD Crossfire 2-way. Now also another PCIe x1 4.0 that is directly connected to the chipset. All of them are reinforced with steel plates for durability. And for storage, 3 M.2 PCIe 4.0 / 3.0 x4 slots have been incorporated , two of them 22110 and one 2280 with built-in heatsinks. To finish, we have 6 SATA 6 Gbps ports.

Regarding network connectivity we also have very interesting news. To start, a dual wired LAN connectivity has been installed using a 2500 Mb / s Realtek chip and a 1000 Mb / s Intel chip . Similarly, the presence of an Intel Wireless-AX 200 chip that gives us Wi-Fi 6 connectivity in 2 × 2 at 2400 Mb / s on the 5 GHz frequency and more than 500 Mb / s on the frequency cannot be missing. 2.4 GHz.

The sound card consists of a Realtek ALC1220-VB chip with a high-performance SABER9118 DAC, although it is a configuration already known on previous boards. Finished by citing the 3 USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-A ports plus one Type-C, 2 USB 3.1 Gen1 ports and 2 USB 2.0 ports.

Gigabyte X570 AORUS Extreme

And the second board that we will see in this article will be the powerful Extreme version, which is located in the top specification of this chipset. Regarding design and cooling, we have a complex system of heatsinks in the power supply phases with a heatpipe that extends to the chipset area. In it, we have a strong aluminum heatsink that extends to the M.2 slots and illuminated PCI area. At the back we also have a backplate that covers most of the board.

The VRM in this case has 16 power phases also with PowlRstage technology which is the largest manufactured by AORUS to date, and four DIMM slots for 128 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM, so we did not reach those 3800 MHz seen in the Asus.

We also repeat with 3 PCIe x16 slots, which in this case are 4.0, all three, and working on x16, x8 and x16 respectively, one of them managed by the X570 chipset. The multi-GPU support is identical to the previous case. The storage configuration consists of 3 M.2 PCIe 4.0 22110 slots with integrated heatsinks and 6 SATA 6 Gbps connectors.

In connectivity we only have a novelty, and that is that a 10 Gbps Aquantia GbE LAN chip has been included along with another 1 Gbps Intel. Thus increasing the benefits in wired LAN. Of course it includes Wi-Fi 6 in the same terms as the previous model.

The sound chip also maintains the Realtek ALC1220-VB specification , although the DAC improves, being a SABER9218. Finally, the USB port count improves, with a total of 5 USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-A and another Type-C, 2 USB 3.1 Gen1 ports and 4 USB 2.0.
