The same has happened to us as with the Xiaomi Mi A2, this product has been purchased for analysis. We wanted to be one of the first to upload the complete review online and give a different vision to the conventional media that upload Android content daily. Fresh air from time to time comes in handy, right?

Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

Xiaomi makes a very similar presentation to us on all their smartphones. A minimalist design that predominates white and an image of the product on its cover. In this box we can quickly identify that it is the version of 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB internal and that it is black.

When opening the box we see the smartphone covered by a plastic bag and accommodated in a piece of cardboard to prevent it from moving during transport. We take out the terminal and find a second section where all the accessories come, including a black silicone case, a USB cable and the wall charger in its European version. Of course, neither the documentation nor the tool to remove the card tray is missing.

We now focus on the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite. At the design level we do not see any important news compared to the previous Xiaomi Mi A1, except the battery and that it is much more compact.

This measure allows savings in manufacturing costs, in order to offer a product with a better price-performance ratio. The terminal has a weight of 178 grams and measures 71.7 x 149.3 x 8.8 mm.

The buttons for volume and power have been placed on the right side, all of them have a firm touch and do not dance. This detail is super important because a few years ago the construction level was not as good as what we are seeing since 2017.

If we look at the left side we see the tray for the cards, in this case we can put two Nano SIM or a Nano SIM and a MicroSD to expand the internal memory of the terminal up to 256 GB. To remove the tray we just have to use the tool that Xiaomi provides us at the bottom of the box.

While if we look at the top we find the infrared emitter and the minijack output. It is ideal for using wired headphones easily.

At the bottom we have the microUSB charging port, a surprise that this terminal does not have the new USB Type-C connector. We are disappointed by this part Xiaomi and we believe that in a terminal of this nature it should include it.

More compact screen on the Xiaomi MI A2 Lite

Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is built with a 5.84-inch screen, this is based on an IPS panel and reaches a resolution of 1080 x 2280 px, that is, the new Full HD +. Llo which translates to a density of 432 ppi. It is a good quality IPS panel, resulting in vivid colors and very good viewing angles. We cannot forget that the screen is ultra panoramic with an aspect ratio of 19: 9

When we go out with him we will have no problem. It automatically adjusts the brightness very well and you hardly have any traces left on the screen. We users who wear polarized glasses are in luck as we can see the screen perfectly vertically and horizontally. One of the first Xiaomi screens that we tested that gives us no problem in this regard. So yes, Xiaomi!

Sound

We have a single rear speaker that we fall in love with the quality of its sound. It is not metallic and it fulfills its objective very well. Little else we can highlight in this section.

Cameras and fingerprint reader

At the top of the front we see the camera, sensors and speaker for calls. The front camera has a resolution of 5 MP, very correct to be talking about an entry-level device.

We also have a double rear camera located in the rear area, consisting of two 12 MP sensors signed by Sony IMX486 Exmor RS and a f2./2 focal point and a 5 MP secondary one. This camera is assisted by an LED flash to improve its behavior in low light conditions.

Can you tell the difference from the Mi A2? Personally, it does not seem to me the best camera we have tested in this price range and the difference with the Mi A2 is quite palpable. Even so, with a good light exposure it works very well and fulfills for a large audience, but for photography enthusiasts they should opt for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 or the Mi A2 .

We now turn to see the back, where the inclusion of a fingerprint reader for the first time in the lower range of Xiaomi stands out, register the fingerprint and unlock your mobile with it whenever you need it. How does it work? Great and it's super fast. Again very happy with the role that the boys of Xiaomi are playing in the mid-range smartphones. They are currently unrivaled.

Inside this Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite hides a veteran Snapdragon 625 processor, which is made up of eight Cortex A53 cores that are capable of reaching a maximum frequency of 2 GHz, offering a very good balance between performance and power consumption. This processor is completed with the Adreno 506 GPU at a clock rate of 650 MHz. The processor is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, although there is a second version with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory at a much lower cost.

We have decided to choose this model since we consider that it is the ideal option to buy it with the Xiaomi Mi A2, although the price difference between both versions is not very large, we believe that the Mi A2 is worth it if you do not miss all its deficiencies.

If we are short on storage, we can put a microSD card of up to 256 GB. The set will allow us to perform multitasking actions and work with different applications at the same time. You can watch a video and answer a message, or have several applications at the same time without affecting the performance of your mobile.

To measure performance we have used AnTuTu in its latest version and we have obtained a very good score: 75001 pts. Although personally I think that it is not the best tool to measure performance and it is better to count the day to day.

At the game level it has worked very well and we have been able to test the main titles such as Asphalt 9, PUBG Mobile and Guns of Boom among others. We are very happy with the result obtained, it can be seen that the 4 GB of RAM memory offers a more fluidity to the system.

Android One operating system

Xiaomi is clear on the Mi A2 series and maintains its agreement with Android to continue including the Android One operating system. That is, we put MIUI aside to make way for a totally clean Android operating system without pre-installed applications that we don't need at all.

The operating system is very fluid and offers us the experience of a high-end terminal. Without lag, very fast, it can be customized a lot and incorporates hardware that is very well optimized.

As expected part with Android Oreo 8.1, but Android P will arrive in a few months and we can update within a year to the version of Android 10. Keep in mind that we will have 3 years of updates in security patches, that is, we have an updated terminal until mid-2021. Almost nothing! Upgraded battery for Xiaomi MI A2 Lite

This whole set is powered by a 4000 mAh battery that offers us a perfect autonomy for a day and a half. In our tests we have reached 6 and a half hours of screen with super demanding use. If you optimize or do not give it so much you will surely arrive at 7 hours of screen without any problem.

Of course, seeing that we had 5 hours and little screen compared to the Xiaomi Mi A2 that has 3000 mAh, we believe that the smartphone could be optimized a little better. Although surely with the new updates of the operating system it will be very fine.

We have to bear in mind that we do not have fast charging with Quick Charger , although given its 4000 mAh we do not see it necessary, since at night we can charge the smartphone without any problem. Although we would have liked to see this technology incorporated.

Connectivity

As for coverage, this Xiaom Mi A2 Lite includes all the bands necessary to use it perfectly in Europe, including the 800 MHz band.

Of course it also includes WiFi ac, bluetooth 4.2, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou. The only absence is the NFC, something understandable given its low price and that at the moment it is not 100% necessary.

Final words and conclusion about Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite

Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite ranks among one of the best options in our guide to the best mid-range smartphones. A minimalist design with three color versions (blue, black and gold), very well optimized hardware and with the fabulous Android One operating system.

At the performance level it is capable of moving any current game and application. Obviously the Snapdragon 625 has its limitations and does not perform the same as a snapdragon 845 but for the functions of a normal street user it is more than enough. Keep in mind that there are two versions to choose from: 3 GB of RAM + 32 GB of internal memory and the one we have analyzed of 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory.

We have been curious that the notification LEDs are located in the lower left area of ​​our smartphone. Of course, only with white LEDs and this we believe is a step backward at the notification level. At least incorporate an RGB LED to identify if a WhatsApp message has arrived , an email or they have spoken to us by telegram.

The cameras leave us a bittersweet taste… As we have commented during the analysis, the Xiaomi Mi A2 wins by a landslide to this Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite. But we have enough positive points about its older brother: better autonomy, minijack connector, Notch? and possibility of expanding the internal memory up to 256 GB.

Its price in Spain starts at 179 euros to 229 euros, while in China we can find them for significantly cheaper prices, although their guarantee must be processed from China or make sure that there is an agreement with a store in Spain.
